Maintenance Assistant
**Job Title:** Welding and Maintenance Technician (Journeyman Mechanic / Millwright) **Location:** Calgary, AB **Job Type:** Full-Time, Permanent, Apprenticeship **About the Role:** Our client is currently seeking a **skilled and dependable Welding and Maintenance Technician** to join their team at a hay processing facility. This role is ideally suited for a certified **Journeyman Mechanic or Millwright** with strong welding experience and a solid background in the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability and optimal mechanical operations in a fast-paced, safety-focused agricultural industrial setting. **Key Responsibilities:** + Install, align, dismantle, and move industrial machinery and equipment. + Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and components efficiently. + Perform regular preventative maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and facility schedules. + Read and interpret technical blueprints, manuals, and schematics. + Safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments. + Accurately document all repairs, inspections, and maintenance tasks. + Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies. + Collaborate with operations teams, engineers, and fellow tradespeople to support seamless plant operations. + Respond swiftly to emergency breakdowns to minimize production downtime. **Qualifications:** + **Valid Journeyman Millwright and/or Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification** (Red Seal preferred). + **5+ years of industrial maintenance experience** , ideally in manufacturing or agricultural processing. + Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems. + Strong welding and fabrication skills. + Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics. + Comfortable working in challenging environments—heights, confined spaces, and variable weather. + Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and communication skills. + Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and communication skills. + Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites if needed. **Preferred Assets:** + Experience with **PLCs** and automation systems. + Forklift, aerial lift, or crane certification. + Background in agriculture, mining, food processing, or energy sectors. **Working Conditions:** + **Shift work and overtime** may be required based on production demands. + Physically demanding role; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods. + Exposure to hay dust, noise, and moving machinery—may not be suitable for individuals with asthma or severe allergies. + Work may include tasks at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.
