Job Title: Maintenance and Engineering Manager
Job Description
The Maintenance and Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems and major utilities across the plant. This position is responsible for designing, maintaining, and upgrading electrical infrastructure, including substations, solar (PV + BESS) systems, main electrical distribution boards, circuit breakers, grounding systems, and electrical controls for both industrial processing and pouch operations. The role involves collaboration with department managers and supervisors in the installation and/or construction activities related to capital and technical projects in a plant setting. The manager will also oversee automation platforms (SCADA, Ignition) and network systems, driving continuous improvement in plant reliability, energy efficiency, and compliance with food industry standards.
Responsibilities
Manage operation, maintenance, and reliability of electrical substations, solar systems, and transformers.Maintain main electrical distribution boards and main circuit breakers to ensure uninterrupted power supply.Implement and verify proper grounding and electrical protection systems for personnel and equipment safety.Oversee electrical systems for boilers, cooling towers, city water systems, and other major utilities.Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.Ensure proper operation and maintenance of electrical controls for all plant processing operations.Maintain and troubleshoot SCADA systems, Ignition HMI platforms, and industrial network infrastructure.Collaborate with IT and automation teams to ensure secure and reliable connectivity for plant systems.Implement and maintain PLC safety systems for all equipment.Enforce compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and food industry electrical standards.Conduct root cause analysis for electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Lead electrical upgrade projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring alignment with plant goals.Prepare technical specifications, review vendor proposals, and manage contractors to deliver projects on time and within budget.Participate in planning and execution of all aspects of capital projects or technology improvement programs.Essential Skills
Knowledge of project management and process improvement processes.Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.Proficiency in PeopleSoft, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Excel and Word.Excellent written and oral communication skills; bilingual English and Spanish preferred.Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.Strong prioritization skills and ability to handle multiple projects at a time.Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to manage engineering projects/programs assigned.Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems.Ability to effectively participate and function on multi-disciplinary teams.Ability to work independently and interdependently with all levels of management and staff.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), and ISA Certified Automation Professional desirable.7+ years’ experience managing engineering and maintenance projects in processing manufacturing operations; union environment preferred.Or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.Why Work Here?

Work Environment
The work environment is a combination of office, plant manufacturing, and warehouse settings, which may be subject to extreme temperatures with exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals. The role requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders in a plant environment. Extended work hours are expected, particularly during the annual fresh pack season (July through October), when vacations are not granted, and individuals will be working 6-7 days a week and will be on call as necessary. Outside of this season, the focus will be on maintaining and upgrading the plant and facilities systems, as well as working on capital projects.
