Job Description

As a machinist, you will be responsible for operating and setting up a variety of machine tools to produce high-precision metal or plastic parts. Your role will involve reading and interpreting technical drawings, selecting and installing the correct tools, measuring and inspecting parts, and performing routine machine maintenance.

Responsibilities

Operate and set up a variety of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and drills.Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand part specifications.Select and install appropriate cutting tools and determine correct speeds and feeds.Use precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet required dimensions and tolerances.Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines, reporting any mechanical issues.Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards.Modify and adjust machine settings for optimal performance.Identify and resolve machining issues such as incorrect dimensions and tool wear.Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.

Essential Skills

Experience with CNC, lathe, and mill operations.Proficiency in troubleshooting and machine setup.Ability to read and interpret blueprints.Familiarity with Fanuc control, Haas, Hwacheon, and g-code/m-code.Strong measuring skills using tools such as calipers and micrometers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Great attitude and willingness to learn.Experience with horizontal and vertical mill machines.Knowledge of conventional/manual machining.CNC programming experience, particularly with Fanuc and Mazak.

Work Environment

Work in a machine shop environment that is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with plans to install AC units. The building is older and crowded, providing a unique and challenging work setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hampton, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
