**Job Title: Machinist** **Job Description**
As a Machinist, you will utilize precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathes, manual milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and various cutting tools to fabricate and shape parts from metal. You will be responsible for selecting, aligning, securing, and removing holding fixtures and materials onto machines safely. The role involves reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, as well as using gauges and precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
**Responsibilities**
+ Fabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal.
+ Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
+ Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
+ Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints of work to be performed.
+ Determine the proper tools required to perform given tasks.
+ Operate and utilize lifting aids as necessary.
+ Perform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
+ Track parts and jobs in Travelers.
+ Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
+ Operate heavy industrial lathes, grinders, boring mills, planers, and portable tools.
+ Perform machining processes such as turning, drilling, tapping, boring, polishing, and threading.
**Essential Skills**
+ 6-10 years of total job shop experience.
+ Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane.
+ Micrometer and caliper experience.
+ Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Experience with single point threading, blueprints, planers, Bridgeport mill, vertical turning lathe, horizontal boring mill, grinder, hydraulics, and large parts.
+ Forklift and crane experience preferred.
+ Large part machining experience preferred (e.g., ship propeller shafting, ship steering gear).
+ Programming experience is a plus.

**Work Environment**
The work environment is very labor-intensive, involving equipment that can be 40-50 feet in length. The noise level is usually moderate to high. Openings are available on both day and night shifts, with examples of day shift hours including 5am-2:30pm, 7am-4:30pm, and 9am-6:30pm. Night shift hours are from 11pm-7am, with flexibility for shifts such as 3pm-11pm and 6pm-6am. Training is conducted on the day shift for roughly 6-8 months.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
