**Job Title: Utility Operator**
**Job Description**
The New Hire Utility Operator is responsible for learning to operate equipment associated with extrusion or tube mill processes, handling aluminum products, and following safe job practices and quality requirements. Starting candidates will be trained in various departments and, once permanent, will be assigned to a specific department.
**Responsibilities**
+ Operate, support, and move materials on and off machines using lifting techniques and hoists.
+ Support tube mill operations and work on a different shift than the extrusion department.
+ Ensure quality objectives are met and assist operators in extrusion or casting equipment.
+ Report and review any unusual conditions to lead operators or supervisors.
+ Collaborate with team members and management to meet daily production goals.
+ Adapt to a Union environment, adhering to terms related to shift movement and flexibility.
+ Participate in machine operation, quality control, packing, and inspection processes.
**Essential Skills**
+ 1-2 years of experience in general labor, production support, or manufacturing processes.
+ Experience with machine operation, quality control, assembly line, and production environments.
+ Ability to use hand tools, forklifts, and other manufacturing equipment.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting weights up to 100 lbs with assistance.
+ Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shifts, weekends, and up to 12-hour shifts.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Mechanical aptitude and a 'can do' approach to cross-training.
+ Interest in learning to operate a forklift if not already experienced.
+ Ability to understand process flow of raw materials in production environments.
**Work Environment**
Work in a non-climate-controlled environment that can be loud due to machinery. The facility is open and spacious, with long shifts currently requiring 10-12 hours of work, 6-7 days per week, with one weekend off per month. Flexibility is required in a Union environment where shifts are dictated and jobs are bid upon. Be prepared to clean grease, oil, and other hydraulic fluids as part of the metal manufacturing process. The facility contains both new robotic machinery and older, complex equipment.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, Virginia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $20.31 - $20.31/hr.
