Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description

The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and productive operation of various machines, including Granulator, Shredder, Color System, Wet Sorter System, and Extruder. This position involves material handling and ensuring the production of high-quality products.

ResponsibilitiesUnderstand, follow, and apply information from the Run Instruction Sheet (RIS). Set up, run, shut down, troubleshoot, clean, and perform general maintenance on systems (machines).Take regular and proper samples and systematically probe boxes as directed by RIS. Report inequities to lab personnel and supervisor.Thoroughly clean boxes, lids, and skids prior to use, determine condition of packaging and dispose of any substandard material.Complete the Run Number Time Log at the end of each shift and update RIS as needed, passing information to the supervisor timely.Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.Properly complete logs for production ledgers (inbound, outbound, rejects, and run) and quality control.Complete Work in Process (WIP) or Ready for Sale (RFS) tags.Compute weights using correct gross, tare, and net figures, and record them appropriately.Become a certified operator on both a forklift and aerial lift as needed.Assist with training new associates.Load and unload material and place it into inventory locations using forklift or pallet jack.Compute pounds per hour processed during the run and document run conditions and productivity standards.Prepare boxes for material by placing labels correctly and removing extra labels.Participate in shift meetings and training sessions.Essential SkillsManufacturing experience working around machines, ideally 1+ year.Capacity for making mathematical computations with adding, subtracting, and calculating percentages.Good handwriting for record-keeping.Experience troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.Sit down forklift experience.Ability to stand for the duration of the shift outside of breaks.Ability to lift up to 65 lbs, not repetitively.Comfort with heights, willing to use aerial lift as needed.Possession of steel-toed or composite-toed shoes.Additional Skills & QualificationsMechanical aptitude.Basic math skills.Experience in machine operation and production.Quality check skills.Experience in plastics manufacturing, injection molding machine, and extrusion.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

This role is based in a traditional manufacturing environment where large machines perform various tasks to receive and separate plastics materials. The facility can be dusty and noisy, requiring hearing and eye protection. Employees must be comfortable climbing stairs or using aerial lifts to access machine parts. The plant is hot in the summer and comfortable but cool in the winter. Dock workers focus on loading and unloading trucks along the facility's outer wall. The dress code includes wearing tight-fitting clothing without large holes, steel or composite-toed shoes, and securing long hair. No jewelry or loose drawstrings are allowed, and cell phones must be stored away from the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
