Job Description

Purpose 
The Logistics Planning Intern will support the Logistics team in day-to-day transportation and inventory planning activities. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to transportation management, freight planning, inventory optimization, and cross-functional logistics operations while developing foundational skills in supply chain and logistics. 
 
Responsibilities
1. Assist transportation planners with shipment planning across assigned locations as needed. 
2. Support communication between logistics, customer service, procurement, facilities, and carriers to ensure smooth shipment execution. 
3. Help track shipment status and assist with providing updates to internal stakeholders. 
4. Support day-to-day load planning activities for IM, LTL, and TL shipments under the guidance of senior planners. 
5. Assist with creating internal plant transfer orders by reviewing ERP system notifications. 
6. Learn to navigate open orders, supply and demand data, and internal production requirements within the ERP system. 
7. Support inventory reviews, including safety stock, replenishment needs, and demand signals for assigned items. 
8. Assist in monitoring inventory levels for transfer items and flag potential issues to the planning team. 
9. Support routing and planning of freight using TMS tools. 
10. Assist with private fleet route planning and optimization activities. 
11. Participate in load consolidation and freight optimization efforts to improve efficiency and reduce costs. 
12. Help collect and analyze key metrics related to freight cost, service performance, and inventory optimization. 
13. Assist with coordination of transfer item setups, routing notes, and documentation in collaboration with Sales Support, Scheduling, and other operational teams. 
14. Support the resolution of freight claims, damages, and carrier service issues as assigned. 
15. Identify improvement opportunities and contribute ideas that drive efficiency and cost savings. 
16. Participate in logistics and transportation improvement projects. 
17. Document processes and assist with keeping procedures current. 
18. Participate in training sessions and shadow experienced team members to build logistics knowledge. 
19. Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by leadership. 
 
Competencies
1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a desire to learn. 
2. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. 
3. Interest in understanding how logistics decisions impact overall business costs. 
4. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications. 
5. Ability to analyze data and communicate findings clearly. 
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
7. Willingness to learn ERP, TMS, and other logistics systems. 
 
Qualifications
1. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field. 
2. Prior internship, co-op, or coursework related to logistics or supply chain preferred but not required. 
3. Exposure to transportation concepts (LTL, TL, freight planning) a plus. 
4. Familiarity with Excel; experience with data analysis tools is a plus. 
5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. 
6. Strong organizational skills and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced setting.
