**About the role and team**
You will anchor the quality of Uber's global voice, ensuring our products, content, and data resonate accurately across all markets, starting with Spanish and the LatAm region. This involves navigating the complexity of scaling linguistic accuracy for high-stakes products like Uber Rides, Uber Eats, and emerging AI solutions. The challenge isn't just translation; it's defining and upholding the **global quality standard** in a high-speed environment where ambiguity and technical debt are daily realities. This role is vital because poorly localized content directly impacts the experience of millions of riders, earners, and customers worldwide, making you a critical partner in our "Trip obsessed" mission.
You will step in to lead quality programs, often solving systemic issues that lack a clear, existing playbook. This requires sharp judgment, cross-functional influence with engineering, product, and AI teams, and the resilience to drive continuous improvement in complex, evolving systems. If you are driven by the ambition to turn complex technical requirements into a simple, high-quality user experience at global scale, you will find immense purpose here.
**What you’ll do**
- **Define** the linguistic quality strategy and standards for localization projects, ensuring consistency across Uber's core products and content used for Machine Learning/AI applications.
- **Navigate** vendor performance, managing external partners and freelancers from a growing Gig Marketplace to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective delivery of localized assets.
- **Conduct** root cause analysis on recurring quality issues found across our apps and websites, translating data trends into actionable and preventative solutions for cross-functional partners.
- **Influence** and build strong alignment with senior stakeholders in Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations to secure resources and drive adoption of quality management tools and systems.
- **Own** end-to-end quality programs, from scoping projects to reviewing product requirement documents (PRDs/RFCs) to implement automation and tool improvements.
- **Evangelize** the value of globalization and quality services, championing best practices across the organization to ensure localization is a strategic, integrated consideration from product inception.
**Basic qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in localization program or quality management, preferably within the technology industry.
- 3+ years of experience managing external vendors, agencies, or crowdsourced models to deliver on quality metrics.
- Proficiency in utilizing data analysis tools (e.g., **SQL, Excel/Google Sheets**) to identify quality trends, measure impact, and drive quantifiable business decisions.
- Demonstrated experience using **Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT)** tools and managing linguistic assets like Translation Memories and Glossaries.
**Preferred qualifications**
- Experience with linguistic data annotation and transcription for **Machine Learning or AI** applications.
- Strong knowledge of **Generative AI** principles and how they intersect with localization and language quality.
- Professional fluency in Spanish, due to the role's location and regional focus.
- Experience reviewing product requirement documents or technical specifications to influence system design and automation.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-ambiguity, fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and complex systems.
