Litigation Legal Assistant
Overview
A well-established law firm in Chicago seeks a Litigation Legal Assistant to support attorneys and legal professionals in a fast-paced litigation practice. This role requires strong administrative skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive administrative support to litigation attorneys and paralegals; assist other practice groups as neededServe as a professional point of contact for clients, court personnel, and internal staff via phone, email, and in personCoordinate meetings, conferences, and scheduling arrangementsPrepare, format, edit, and proofread correspondence, memoranda, and legal documentsDraft routine litigation-related documents and filings under attorney directionElectronically file documents with courts and maintain awareness of filing requirements and deadlinesMonitor and track key dates and deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasksManage case files, including opening, maintaining, organizing, and closing physical and electronic recordsProcess invoices, expense reimbursements, and other administrative requestsHandle incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and document distributionTranscribe dictated material when requiredMaintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm informationKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize effectivelyDemonstrated attention to detail and accuracyKnowledge of litigation procedures, court systems, and legal terminologyAbility to review and identify pleadings and other litigation-related documentsProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and ExcelExperience with document management, billing, and transcription software preferredClear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skillsAbility to exercise sound judgment, apply common sense, and follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environmentFlexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet business demandsEducation and Experience
Five or more years of litigation legal assistant experience in a law firm or comparable legal environmentEducation beyond high school or coursework related to the legal field preferredDemonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work with complex legal documents, including pleadings and court filings***Only qualified candidates will be contacted.
