Position Summary
Performs all Security Officer duties as directed by the on-duty Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge, completes assigned tasks accurately and on time, reports security issues promptly to appropriate leadership on duty, and properly uses authorized security equipment and vehicles.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position, utilizing security policies and procedure via PolicyTech. Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current Department and Hospital Policies and Procedures. Carries out all duties and assignments of a Security Officer, including the proper and timely completion of all post and other task assignments. Identifies and communicates security issues timely to the Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge, Assistant Director of Security or Security Director on duty. Attends staff meetings or equivalent to update knowledge related to current Department/Hospital issues. Attends in-service, Net Learning as required/requested to update knowledge. Completes annual Department/Hospital competency requirements. Ability to observe and report unusual activity promptly. Ability to investigate, report and document incidents. Ability to communicate tour events and unusual activities to colleagues and management. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) with some college credits preferred. A minimum of two years of security experience preferred. Must have and maintain a New York State Security license. A valid driver’s license is required effective 1/1/2026; employees hired prior to this date will be grandfathered in. BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be completed within 90 days of hire. De-escalation training and Restraint training to be completed within the probationary period.

May be exposed to or work around chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time. Ability to safely lift, move, and assist individuals and handle weighted objects as required. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75lbs. Must be able to adapt in high stress and emergent situations, acting swiftly when an emergency or crisis occurs. Ability to move quickly throughout the campus and from building to building.
