Lead Test Engineer
Job Title: Lead Test Engineer Job Description The Test Engineering Group Lead is responsible for providing both technical expertise and people leadership to a multidisciplinary test engineering team. This role manages 4–5 direct-report test engineers, ensuring day-to-day operations, monthly planning, and project timelines are met. The Group Lead acts as a technical resource, mentoring junior engineers, distributing workload, and stepping in on complex tests when hands-on expertise is needed. The position supports a wide array of testing groups, including durability, noise/fabrication/vibration (NVH), and strength, requiring a versatile technical leader who can quickly diagnose and resolve test failures or engineering problems. The Group Lead leads investigations, validates test results prior to management approval, and drives continuous improvement across test processes, equipment, and quality standards. This role participates in broader departmental initiatives such as business planning, budgeting, cost improvement, and new model test activity, representing the Test Engineering function and ensuring its success across projects and product lifecycle phases. Responsibilities + Provide technical and people leadership to a multidisciplinary test engineering team. + Manage 4-5 direct-report test engineers and ensure operations, planning, and timelines are met. + Act as a technical resource, mentor junior engineers, and distribute workload effectively. + Support testing groups across durability, NVH, and strength domains. + Diagnose and resolve test failures or engineering problems quickly. + Lead investigations and validate test results prior to management approval. + Drive continuous improvement in test processes, equipment, and quality standards. + Participate in business planning, budgeting, cost improvement, and new model test activities. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field or equivalent experience. + 3–5 years of hands-on Test Engineering experience. + 2+ years of project leadership experience. + Experience mentoring, coaching, or leading engineering staff. + Strong technical problem-solving track record. + Broad understanding of durability, NVH, and strength testing. + Ability to operate in both office and production/test environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Ability to mentor less experienced engineers. + Comfortable working across multiple testing domains. + Strong test analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause skills. + Flexibility for shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed. + Willingness to travel up to 50%. Work Environment The work environment is split between test lab, production areas, and office spaces. Standing for extended periods is required. The schedule is flexible, with shifts and weekends possible. Overtime may be needed, and travel is under 50%. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
