Come work on the Caterpillar IT Team as a Lead Technology Specialist supporting Caterpillar's Autonomy & Autonomous Business Unit. The Autonomy and Automation team is focused on scaling technology solutions in mining, construction, quarry and aggregates and beyond to support customer safety and productivity goals. A&A is responsible for technology solutions including autonomy, semi-autonomy, remote control, and other technologies. The goal is to address key customer problems, including: safety, productivity, labor shortage, energy transition and process optimization. The Team Lead for the new Platform in a Box Team will be responsible for the end-to-end ownership of edge device infrastructure, supporting A&A and the Cat Technology Team at Caterpillar. This role will focus on deploying, maintaining, and improving edge computing environments, with a strong emphasis on automated deployment processes, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems and alignment with business objectives.
What You Will Do:
Oversee deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of edge devices
Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of automated deployment processes for edge environments
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute deployment strategies that drive operational efficiency
Monitor and maintain the health, performance, and security of edge devices and supporting systems
Develop and enforce best practices for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), device management, and deployment workflows
Support migration projects from legacy platforms to modern edge-based solutions
Research and evaluate emerging technologies relevant to edge computing and automated deployment
Mentor and guide a geographically distributed team of engineers and analysts
Act as the primary point of contact for escalations related to edge device deployment and operations
What You Have:
Ability to work well with a geographically distributed team
Ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them with an enterprise perspective
Ability to act in a self-directed manner, independently researching tools/libraries/technologies or solving a problem with minimal oversight and instructions
Excellent communication skills (in English) to persuade others to use recommended practices and technologies
On-premises Infrastructure provisioning and management
Strong understanding of edge computing architecture and automated deployment frameworks
Experience with source code management (e.g., Git), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD pipelines
Linux and Windows Server administration
Understanding of security best practices for edge environments
Edge device management
Automation scripting (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Python)
Containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Amazon Web Services
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Experience with Kubernetes
Experience with Operational Technology
Experience in IoT

The ideal location for this role is East Peoria – IL, Dallas - TX
This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$128,470.00 - $208,770.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
