About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Substation Physical Lead Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. In this client-facing role, you will lead physical design efforts for high-voltage electric substations and renewable energy interconnection projects. You will apply NESC, NEC, and other applicable industry codes and standards while independently producing high‑voltage physical design packages and collaborating with internal and external project partners to ensure high-quality project execution.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead all technical aspects of physical design for high-voltage (4kV–230kV) and extra-high voltage (EHV >230kV) substation projects.Develop design packages including:General Arrangements, Plan & Elevation ViewsGrounding PlansCable Trough & Conduit PlansSpecifications for major primary equipment (transformers, breakers, switches, etc.)Design calculations, bills of material, and construction documentsPerform grounding and lightning studies, AC/DC load calculations, and bus fault stress analysis.Provide technical support for procurement and construction teams.Work closely with Physical Designers to develop detailed drawings.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including transmission, distribution, civil, geotechnical, and survey groups.Participate in client meetings and communicate key client requirements to project teams.Serve as a technical specialist for system protection and communication.Proactively identify and remove obstacles hindering engineering team performance.Support management in maximizing team ROI and improving processes.Manage multiple fast‑paced projects while maintaining a commitment to high‑quality deliverables.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.5+ years of direct Substation Physical Design Engineering experience.Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.Experience with SDS (Substation Design Suite) preferred.Proficient with grounding and lightning study tools such as CDEGS, WinIGS, or similar.Strong understanding of mechanical forces and thermal effects during high fault currents.Solid knowledge of industry standards, including NEC and NESC.Knowledge of substation technology trends and best practices.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 2 years.Experience with construction practices and constructability reviews.Experience in proposal development and project cost estimating.Familiarity with scheduling and project controls.EIT certification.Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Mary, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
