As a Lead Software Engineer, Test Strategy in our Chief Security Office (CSO), you’ll play a critical role in protecting millions of customers and the infrastructure that powers our world. What You'll Do:
Innovate with Automation, AI, and Agentic Systems:
Leverage advanced test automation, AI-driven testing, and agentic systems to increase coverage, efficiency, and insight across functional, performance, and security domains. You will design and implement agent-based testing workflows where AI agents can:
Engineer World-Class Testing:
Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive test frameworks and automation pipelines, including agentic test orchestration that can plan tasks, call tools (test runners, CI jobs, log systems), and iterate based on results.
Drive Data-Driven Quality:
Use metrics, analytics, and agent evaluation loops (e.g., pass/fail reliability, flake detection, hallucination/incorrect-action rates) to continuously improve testing processes and the accuracy/safety of agent-driven automation.
Who You Are:
An expert in building and scaling test automation for cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).Deeply knowledgeable about modern QA methodologies, security testing, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, PyTest).Hands-on experience building agentic systems applied to software testing, such as LLM-based agents that can plan multi-step tasks, use tools/APIs, and iteratively improve outcomes (e.g., generating tests from requirements, self-healing tests, failure triage, and automated debugging assistance).Experience implementing guardrails and reliability controls for agentic workflows, including prompt/version management, tool-permissioning, human-in-the-loop review, deterministic checkpoints, and evaluation harnesses.Experience integrating agentic systems with engineering toolchains (e.g., Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, test runners, observability/log platforms, ticketing systems).A collaborative team player, able to communicate complex ideas effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.Desirable Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, test automation, or QA for cloud-based platforms.Experience with AI/ML-driven testing or emerging automation tools.Proven record of successfully leading quality initiatives through technological and organizational change.Familiarity with applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) techniques in cybersecurity contexts (e.g., anomaly detection, threat hunting, behavioral analytics, or risk scoring).Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MS/MA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or Cybersecurity preferred. 5+ years of related experience in software engineering and test automation.

Our Lead Software Engineering earns between $141,300-$211,900 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
