Lead Software Engineer - Identity Access Manager

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the [insert LOB or sub LOB], you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

Architect and implement robust authentication systems: Design, develop, and maintain secure authentication and authorization solutions, leveraging industry-standard protocols (OIDC, OAuth, SAML, etc.) to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with security best practices.

Champion security-first development: Consistently deliver high-quality, production-ready code with a strong emphasis on security, code reviews, and vulnerability mitigation. Proactively identify and remediate security risks in backend systems.

Lead technical troubleshooting and innovation: Tackle complex technical challenges with creative, non-conventional approaches. Break down intricate problems and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions that align with business and client needs.

Drive operational excellence: Identify and automate remediation of recurring issues to enhance the stability, reliability, and performance of authentication and backend services.

Evaluate and integrate new technologies: Lead technical evaluation sessions with vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural fit, security posture, and integration potential for authentication and backend solutions.

Mentor and develop talent: Guide junior engineers and peers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, extreme ownership, and mutual respect. Encourage personal growth and technical excellence within the team.

Promote best practices and community engagement: Lead communities of practice focused on authentication, security, and backend engineering. Drive adoption of new technologies and share knowledge across teams.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

5+ years of hands-on backend development experience, with a proven track record in designing and building secure authentication systems.

Expertise in authentication protocols: Deep knowledge of OIDC, OAuth, SAML, and related standards, with practical experience implementing and integrating these protocols in production environments.

Advanced programming skills: Proficiency in Java (preferred), with additional experience in Shell and Groovy scripting.

Security mindset: Demonstrated ability to deliver secure, resilient, and scalable backend solutions. Strong understanding of secure coding practices and threat modeling.

Cloud-native development: Practical experience with AWS and containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker), and resilient RDBMS solutions (CockroachDB or similar).

DevOps and automation: Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and git source control management.

Full SDLC ownership: Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile methodologies, and operational stability.

Industry knowledge: Familiarity with financial services IT systems and regulatory requirements is a plus.
