Department Profile

Middle Office is a dynamic and fast-paced area within the Firm's WM Technology Division. We are responsible for creating innovative technology solutions for Core Brokerage, one of the strategic growth areas of the Firm. Middle office is a core foundation for Morgan Stanley. It provides the platform with key capabilities to support customer digital journey from opening an account, funding the account, trade and order management, portfolio/balances, and risk management on all digital channels. It also provides the capabilities for Morgan Stanley B2B stock plan business to manage participants lifecycle. Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering leader in our Core Brokerage group, who will lead the technical aspects of designing, implementing, testing of various initiatives. The role expects significant engineering ownership in complex server-side applications, including new feature work, improvements on existing code, and active participation in designing and shipping the product.

The incumbent will be working in Middle Office Core Platform Organization to drive product development including requirement gathering, technical solutioning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead a technical team to design and implement highly reliable, scale-able, extensible, maintainable, global, and operable products and platformsDraft and review architectural diagrams, interface specifications, class structures, and other design documentsBuild systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexityPresent opportunities with cost/benefit analysis to leadership in order to shape decisions regarding architectural strategyEvangelize technologies, solutions, and best practices developed with the organizationDevelop department-wide technical perspectives, standards, solutions, and strategies that resolve significant product or organizational pain-pointsParticipate in a network of principal engineers to share ideas, practices, and experiencesWork closely with product management and development teamsYou must enjoy challenging engineering problems. We are looking for someone who can solve complex issuesWe value principal engineers who do enough hands-on implementation work to keep current with technology trends inside and outside the companyLead and mentor other back-end engineers BasicMinimum of 10 years of software development experienceBachelor degree in Computer Science or a related fieldStrong Proficiency with either Go or Java/J2EE



Preferred

Expert in software development domain and principles, including design patterns, data structures, continuous integration and deployment architectureSolid experience in working with either Golang or Java. Knowledge in multiple languages like GO, Java, C++, Javascript will be a plus.Knowledge on Spring, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate and C/C++, batch scripts - perl, ksh.Good understanding of Web Services protocols such as REST, SOAP, IDL, gRPC and API design for extensibility and portabilityExperience writing SQL queries for Sybase / Oracle or another Relational Database is required.Well versed with OOD and SOA principles.Experience of working in UNIX environment. Knowledge of perl and UNIX based shell scripts is requiredWorking knowledge of cloud, service mesh and containersTeam player possessing strong analytical, problem solving and communication skillsExperience with SCRUM, Agile and iterative approaches a plusCreative thinker, self-starter, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $210,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
