**About this role:**
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer.
**In this role, you will be:**
Responsible for designing, modernizing, and governing the engineering toolchain, IDE ecosystem, and cloud-based development environments used across the enterprise.
This role ensures developers have fast, secure, scalable, and friction‑free tooling—from provisioning IDEs to managing 3rd‑party tooling lifecycles, enabling GitHub Copilot adoption, and driving technical risk management across the DTE product area.
**Key Responsibilities**
**1. Developer Tools & Environment Engineering**
Design and evolve modern development workspaces, including standardized IDE bundles, plugins, debugging/profiling tools, and multi-language developer tooling.
Lead GitHub Copilot rollout, GitHub Codespaces enablement, and AI-assisted development tooling adoption.Own lifecycle management of 1,000+ third‑party developer tools, ensuring compatibility, stability, and minimized version conflicts.
**2. Environment Provisioning & Automation**
Streamline end‑to‑end developer environment provisioning, access management, and automation including AIMS‑based tool access and secure workspace setup.
Implement cloud‑based development environments and secure, scalable workspace provisioning for multiple personas (Java, .NET, UI developers, etc.).
**3. Technical Governance & Risk Management**
Lead technical risk management for developer tools—govern configurations, assess vulnerabilities, manage version upgrades, and enforce compliance timelines.
Drive proactive remediation of DevTools vulnerabilities and ensure N‑2 version compliance before audit deadlines.
**4. Productivity & Developer Experience Acceleration**
Reduce developer friction by simplifying tooling onboarding, minimizing setup issues, and ensuring consistent tool availability and performance.
Improve developer flow state with standardized tool delivery, productivity aides, and accelerators.
**5. Cross‑Team & Product Area Leadership**
Collaborate with Product Managers, Enterprise Architecture, InfoSec, and Engineering Enablement teams to define toolchain strategy and technical direction.
Lead engineering strategy for DTE product area (Nebula, Skyler, Gryffin Coders, Nimble Nimbus) and ensure alignment with L2 goals and roadmap.Guide junior engineers, foster innovation, and drive cultural adoption of modern DevEx tooling and best practices.
**6. GenAI & AI‑Augmented SDLC Enablement**
Integrate GenAI patterns (Copilot, code generation, automated defect prediction) into developer tooling.
Partner with EFU teams to ensure toolchain alignment with framework upgrades, AI-assisted testing, and SDLC automation.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
