Lead Radiation Therapist
**Job Summary and Responsibilities** **Position Summary:** This position is responsible for assisting in localizing tumors, participates in treatment planning and delivering high doses of ionizing radiation treatment to patients in accordance with prescription and instructions from Radiation Oncologists under direction of the Manager of Radiation Oncology. In accordance with the mission and philosophy of Dignity, the Senior Radiation Therapist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and their families. + Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Screens individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass. + Treatment Delivery a.Reviews daily treatment record prior to treatment. b.Assesses daily the patients need for information and reassurance. c.Verifies the accuracy of the patient setup prior to treatment delivery. d.Verifies treatment console readouts and settings prior to initiating treatment and upon termination of treatment. e.Ensures that only the patient is in the treatment room prior to initiating treatment. f.Evaluates the patient daily for any untoward effects, reactions and therapeutic responses. g.Knowledgeable of patient self care techniques for management of radiation side effects. + Imaging a.Follows imaging protocols. b.Develops and labels films appropriately. c.Takes treatment ports and localization simulation films of usable quality. d.Reviews portal films and initiates change as necessary. e.Adjusts machine fluoroscopy techniques for optimal viewing results. + Radiation Safety a.Adheres to radiation safety rules and standards at all time. b.Monitors patient in treatment vault using CCTV and voice activated intercom c.Observes the environment for any potential radiation hazards. d.Wears radiation film badge at all times in the treatment area. e.Minimizes patient exposure during fluoroscopy procedures. + Teaching and Patient Education a.Provides information on about radiation therapy procedures to the patient, significant others and health care providers. b.Verifies that written consent has been obtained. c.Provides information and instruction on proper skin care, diet and selfcare procedures. d.Shares knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers, students and all members of the health care team. e.Orients visitors as assigned + Simulation a.Assesses the patients risk for allergic reaction to contrast material prior to administration for simulation. b.Participates in decisions about appropriate simulation techniques and treatment positions. c.Performs localization of tumor volume under the direction of physician. d.Selects appropriate immobilization and positioning aids for simulation. **Job Requirements** **Minimum:** + Associates Of Science Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy technology from an accredited, upon hire and + Minimum five (5) years experience as a Staff Radiation Therapist in a Radiation Oncology Clinic in a community hospital or free standing facility, upon hire or + Minimum three (3) years experience as Staff Radiation Therapist in a teaching University Medical Center or + Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years combined experience in healthcare industry, upon hire or + One (1) to two (2) years of experience with a minimum of one (1) year in area of related field, upon hire + Registered Radiation Therapy Technologist: CA, upon hire and + Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and + Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT, upon hire **Where You'll Work** About Sequoia Hospital – Hello Humankindness Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital is an accredited, not-for-profit community hospital providing innovative and exceptional health care for generations of Bay Area residents.
