**Job Title: Lead Operator - 1st Shift**
**Job Description**
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Operator to join our team on the 1st shift. The role requires overseeing forklift and material handlers while actively participating in forklift operating and general labor duties. This position is ideal for someone comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting and capable of leading and performing tasks efficiently.
**Responsibilities**
+ Oversee and lead personnel in the forklift and material handling operations.
+ Perform forklift operating duties, including moving raw material metal and finished bales around the facility using a standard propane sit-down forklift.
+ Ensure safe operation of forklifts and attachments such as clamp truck, long fork, and tilting attachment.
+ Assist with general cleaning and labor tasks when needed.
+ Contribute to the efficient loading of pallets onto machines or trucks.
**Essential Skills**
+ Leadership experience
+ Previous experience with heavy lifting.
+ Ability to operate large sit-down forklifts.
+ Experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Bilingual abilities (Spanish) are a plus.

**Work Environment**
The position is located in a heavy industrial environment, primarily within a metal sorting and packaging operation. The facility remains cooler than typical metal manufacturing sites since no melting of metals occurs. The work area includes sorting tables, baling machines, and large pallets of incoming metals. The environment is moderately clean and may be loud near machinery, requiring hearing protection. Employees must wear steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and gloves. Denim or work-material long pants are required, and the shift runs Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm, with potential overtime on Saturdays.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
