The Lead Network Technology Engineer is responsible for maintaining specific geographic areas of the transport footprint, and the deployment of targeted network technologies to establish and support the fiber network for the Layer 1 InterCity network in support of internal and external demand.
What You'll Do:
Hands-on function that ultimately results in the delivery of network applications, services, or solutions and each of the environments in which these elements will be deployed. Responsible for translating the core architecture from business requirements into the final technical solution. The final solution will be deployed in a purpose-built, cloud- based or hybrid environment that includes hardware and software using functional, performance, and reliability analysis using new or existing engineering models and techniques.
What You'll Bring:
Collaborate with transport teams to establish and prioritize overbuild and diversity remediation projects.Initiate and oversee feasibility studies to assess project viability, scope, and requirements.Lead cross-functional teams to identify project costs, develop construction timelines, and define resource needs.Negotiate and secure phased project funding, strategically spreading expenditures across multi-year build plans.Prepare and submit funding requests in alignment with project and organizational objectives.Create comprehensive project documentation detailing specifications, milestones, and deliverables.Maintain and update project records in the GMO system to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.Manage requests for fiber buffer allocations and One Call subscriptions to support construction activities.Develop and execute multi-year budget plans, ensuring alignment with long-term organizational strategies and goals.Identify and assess network assets or infrastructure candidates for retirement.Collaborate with OSP Engineering and Right-of-Way (ROW) teams to determine retirement costs.Coordinate with third party fiber providers to evaluate opportunities to lease fiber strands to augment core fiber capacity.What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired. 5+ years of related experience. Certification is required in some areas.Experience and/or familiarity with: PowerBI, Tableau, GMO, ALM, GeoLink.Our Lead Network Technology Engineer, earns between
