The Lead Mechanical Engineer will lead collaboration across teams and serve as the technical support during production. This role involves working directly with customers to present conceptual designs, conduct design reviews, and update on project progress. From initial concept development to final review, strong communication, problem-solving skills, and teamwork are essential to ensure project success and smooth execution. Additionally, the role involves active participation in the mechanical design and engineering of custom automated equipment, ensuring designs meet functional, performance, and manufacturability requirements.

ResponsibilitiesPlay an active role as a team member in the Mechanical Design Engineering team, contributing expertise and collaborating effectively with colleagues.Develop and design mechanical components and assemblies.Oversee the creation of engineering drawings and documentation, adhering to industry standards and company guidelines.Stay up to date on the latest mechanical engineering technologies and trends, continuously expanding knowledge and skills.Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross-functional team members to ensure project success, fostering effective communication and teamwork.Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, addressing design-related issues and ensuring smooth production processes.Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues, analyzing problems, and implementing effective solutions.Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills, fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.Present designs to customers in weekly review meetings.Essential Skills10+ years of experience in Designing Automation Equipment.Proficient in SolidWorks CAD software including FEA simulation.Strong practical knowledge of mechanical design and performing engineering calculations.Experience leading mechanical design project teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to travel within the US and Canada.

Work for a global automation systems integrator that serves diverse end markets. This position involves designing, building, testing, and integrating custom solutions to automate operations.

The team consists of 80+ engineers, including mechanical, designers, controls, electrical, project managers, and applications experts.

The work environment is laid-back, with a focus on relieving stress through humor. The position reports directly to a Mechanical Engineering Manager and involves close interaction with the Electrical team.

he team works approximately 45 hours per week, with 75% of time spent designing at the desk and 25% on debugging. Travel to customer sites for installation is rare. The work location includes an engineering center and a nearby plant, with another plant located 15 minutes away.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
