About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Database Technologies Automation organization. This role is a key contributor to building and evolving a suite of internal, API driven automation services that enable secure, scalable, and reliable database provisioning and lifecycle management across the enterprise.
The Database Technologies Automation team designs and operates shared platforms, APIs, and tooling that power self-service database capabilities, integrate with bank wide automation workflows, and improve consistency, stability, and speed of delivery across all supported database platforms. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong backend or platform engineering background who enjoy building robust automation and internal services.
The successful candidate will bring modern software engineering practices, a strong focus on test automation and CI/CD, and experience partnering with infrastructure, SRE, and database platform teams. While the team continues to mature its agile practices, it actively leverages automated pipelines and shared standards to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable microservices.
In this role, you will:
Lead the design and delivery of complex software solutions that support database automation and self-service capabilities across the enterpriseAct as a key contributor in establishing and evolving engineering standards and best practices for building scalable, reliable, and secure internal platforms and APIsDesign, develop, test, debug, and document backend services, automation tooling, and supporting frameworksAnalyze and evaluate complex technical challenges across a diverse enterprise environment, balancing scalability, reliability, security, and operational requirementsProvide hands on technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring of engineers within the teamCollaborate closely with database platform subject matter experts, infrastructure teams, SREs, and other engineering partners to translate operational needs into reusable automation and servicesInfluence technical direction and implementation decisions to ensure solutions meet long term strategic and operational goalsRequired Qualifications:
5+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
3+ years of strong experience developing production grade software using Python2+ years of experience building and maintaining API based services using frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django2+ years of demonstrated experience writing automated unit and integration tests using tools such as pytest, with a strong focus on maintainable, high coverage testing2+ years of experience applying object-oriented design principles, including use of classes, inheritance, and code reuse2+ years of experience using Git in a collaborative development environment, including pull requests and peer code reviews2+ years of hands on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes using tools such as Jenkins and Jira or equivalent platformsDesired Qualifications:
Experience working in Agile delivery teams using Scrum or KanbanExperience developing internal tools or services that interact with or support database platformsExperience with SQLAlchemy or similar ORM frameworksExperience working with PL/SQL or other database resident logic‑resident logicFamiliarity with infrastructure or configuration automation tools such as AnsibleExperience with modern front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) for internal tools or administrative interfacesExperience partnering with infrastructure, SRE, or operations teams in an enterprise environmentJob Expectations:
