Lead HR Generalist
Job Description Overview A top tier Medical Device manufacturing and distribution organization in the Memphis area is seeking a Lead HR Generalist to support a large, high volume site with approximately 200–250 employees and anticipated growth of ~50 additional hires (including 2nd shift expansion). This is a high visibility, hands on HR role supporting employee relations, site leadership, and operational growth. The Lead HR Generalist will act as a bridge between employees and leadership, partner closely with Operations, and play a key role in engagement, compliance, and workforce planning. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Employee Relations & HR Operations • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employee relations across 1st shift, 2nd shift, and weekend operations. • Manage complex and sensitive employee issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, investigations, and outside issues (e.g., domestic situations). • Provide guidance on HR policies, attendance, time management, and timekeeping systems, including hourly punch in/punch out environments. • Support employee separations, corrective actions, and exit interviews with professionalism and consistency. Leadership & Strategic Partnership • Partner closely with site leadership, senior managers (3–4), and multiple people managers to support day to day and long term workforce needs. • Maintain a strong on site presence and “get your hands dirty” approach — balancing employee advocacy with business needs. • Participate in weekly leadership meetings to discuss projects, staffing needs, headcount planning, and employee concerns. • Support monthly meetings between HR leadership and the VP of Operations. Workforce Growth & Change Management • Support significant operational activity, including: o Warehouse and floor redesign o Large scale inventory movement (PA to Memphis) o Hiring ramp for 2nd shift (Quality, Inventory, Operations roles) • Partner with leadership to identify when and where additional HR or operational support is needed. Engagement & Culture • Lead site town halls, employee communications, and engagement initiatives. • Recognize and highlight high performing employees. • Participate in and support the employee engagement committee. • Act as a visible, trusted HR presence on the floor. Systems & Compliance • Utilize Workday ERP for HR processes, reporting, and employee data management. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations (multi state exposure). • Partner with HR leadership and legal as needed to manage risk and ensure best practices. Skills and Requirements Required Skills & Experience • 3+ years of progressive HR experience (manufacturing or distribution environment strongly preferred). • Strong background in employee relations within an hourly workforce. • Experience supporting manufacturing or distribution operations, including multi shift environments. • Hands on experience with timekeeping systems and attendance management. • Working knowledge of Workday ERP (or similar HRIS). • Comfortable handling tough, high emotion situations; must have a thick skin and strong judgment. • Ability to balance leadership influence with day to day HR execution (approx. 60% HR for leadership / 40% HR for employees). • Degree is flexible; practical experience is highly valued. Nice to Have • Medical Device industry experience (strong plus). • 5+ years supporting a manufacturing or distribution site. • Experience supporting rapid growth or post RIF environments.
