We are currently looking for an energetic, hard-working Lead Hand to work as a permanent part time position in our Packing department on our Weekend Night shift (Friday to Saturday 23:00h-11:00h EST and Saturday to Sunday 23:00h-11:00h EST) at our Allistonfacility.

The following are dress/gowning requirements: safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, jumpsuit, hood, hairnet, beard cover, gloves, isolation mask and boots (additional PPE required when cleaning) 

Constant or intermittent exposure to elevated levels of noise 

Involves working around equipment, machinery, and belts 

What You'll Be Doing 

The Lead hand is responsible for coordinating the Viaflex Pack department, optimizing output while maintaining all quality and safety standards.
The Lead Hand will monitor the activities of team members and machinery to ensure production of quality product in a safe and efficient manner.
This position involves considerable hands-on equipment troubleshooting, repair, set-up, changeover and line operation. In addition, the Viaflex Lead Hand may need to perform Packing Operator/MH/IPC/Bliss duties when required. Viaflex Packing Lead Hand will be required to cover Supervisor as required.

Duties performed on a daily basis:

Coordinate the operation of the Viaflex Packing department. This includes creating the rotation schedule, communicating with Supervisors, filling and team members on possible delays, and communicating with Quality Ops with any quality related issues.Monitor equipment performance and make adjustments and repairs as required. Initiate any Maximo work orders required. Escalate any equipment DT to appropriate departments, Supervisor and Manager. Complete EOD shift report.Work closely with Project Engineer with any Packing Improvement Processes, this may require extra work hours over the holidays to complete projects.Responsible for escalating safety, quality, and production issues as appropriate. This includes executing initial quality investigations (data gathering) and safety incident reports.Ensuring all SOP’s, GMP’s and Safety rules are followed.Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of EBR tasks for FOB/LOB tasks are approved.Assist with batch and line set up.Train operators and provide feedback to Supervisor.Help in the execution of scrap/cost reduction projects.Perform Packing, MH, Bliss, IPC duties on an as needed basis.Support EMS implementation which includes maintaining the department in 6S condition and participating in the IDEAS program.Follow all applicable procedures related to the role, ensure to comply with all GMP, compliance and regulatory requirementsExperience within a manufacturing operationStrong mechanical aptitude and equipment trouble-shooting ability.Practical experience using Lean tools (6S, LSW, VM, DA, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping).People coaching and team development skills.Strong communication skills, ability to work with all levels of the organization.Strong ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast paced, high pressure environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel & PowerPoint and Infinity, EBR and AS400\Kronos.Good working knowledge of SOP’s/specs, blueprints, PCS’s and BOM’sProficiency in trouble shooting automated equipment.

Duties performed on a continual or intermittent basis: 

Learn, understand and apply thorough quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) 

Notify the supervisor and take appropriate action if any safety, quality, mechanical or discrepancy issues occur 

Sustain a clean and safe work area using 6S principles

What You'll Bring 

Successful completion of High School diploma or GED required (Proof will be requested)

Must pass ergonomic assessment to ensure ability to perform bonafide essential job duties

3-5 years of manufacturing experience

Proven capacity to operate autonomously and self-motivated to achieve results with minimal direction

Organizational and time management skills

Excellent technical ability with proven problem-solving skills

Quality focus 

Experience doing repetitive tasks

Fast-paced environment, high pressure

Ability to work in noisy and warm, wet conditions; also heavy lifting involved.

Demonstrated good attendance record in present position.

Demonstrated good performance & good quality in present position.

Strong “can do” attitude, presenting a positive and optimistic approach to problem-solving

Experience in successfully troubleshooting mechanical problems with a keen mechanical insight and creativity

Experience in working effectively both independently and within a team setting

Proven ability to be proactive and self-motivated on the job

Demonstrated ability to document data correctly per CA GPP 80.

Must have the ability to comprehend Baxter Specifications / SOP’s and determine appropriate corrective actions.

Willingness to work flexible hours outside of core shift, overtime

Ability to enter tanks for inspection and cleaning. (Confined Space entry)

Capacity to function in noisy, warm, and moist conditions; includes the necessity of heavy lifting.

Equipment and tools used: Electronic scales, balance scales, hand cart, bubble point testing equipment, wash troughs, agitators, pumps, filters, and load cells, System AS400, BMTS, EB

Pay Transparency Language:
We understand that compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a pay rate of $35.40 an hour. You may also be entitled to a shift premium for all shift premium eligible hours which will be included in your bi-weekly pay. Shift premium pay is subject to change and is at the sole discretion of the Company.
