Lead Engineer - IT
**Job Description:** **The Data Engineer will support the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise‑grade data solutions for Guardian’s Investment Data platform. This role is responsible for building scalable data pipelines, ensuring high‑quality data delivery, and partnering with business and technology teams to support Investments domain needs across asset classes such as Fixed Income, Private Equity, Derivatives, Commercial and Residential Mortgage Loans etc.** **The candidate must have deep technical expertise in modern data engineering, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work in an Agile environment.** **Key Responsibilities-** **Requirements Elicitation & Analysis** + Understand the project's Vision and requirements, and contribute to the creation of the supplemental requirements, building the low-level technical specifications for a particular platform and/or service solution. + Understand product vision, business requirements, data models, and platform objectives. + Collaborate with Product Owners, SMEs, and Architects to define technical requirements and data mapping specifications. + Translate business rules into detailed low‑level technical designs (LLD). **Project Planning, Tracking & Reporting** + Estimate efforts for design, build, and test activities for assigned modules. + Provide input to sprint planning, schedule creation, and dependency identification. + Support the team in project planning activities, in evaluating risks, and shuffle priorities based on unresolved issues. + During development and testing, ensure that assigned parts of the project/modules are on track with respect to schedules and quality. + Note scope changes within the assigned modules and work with the team to shuffle priorities accordingly. + Communicate regularly with the team about development changes, scheduling, and status. + Participate in project review meetings. + Tracking and reporting progress for assigned modules, highlighting risks, blockers, and scope variations. + Ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of assigned work items. **Design** + Develop low‑level designs for ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines. + Evaluate alternate solutions and recommend optimal technical approaches. + Present LLDs in formal reviews and incorporate feedback. **Development & Support** + Build scalable, high‑performing ETL/ELT pipelines using approved tools and coding standards. + Implement complex investment data transformations involving trades, positions, valuations, pricing, and security master data. + Adhere to version control, code management, and DevOps practices. + Perform peer reviews to ensure it meets coding and efficiency standards. at T4 level, act as a primary reviewer for junior engineers. Recommend changes to the code as required. **Testing, Debugging & Validation** + Participate in Test Case walkthroughs and validate coverage for functional and non‑functional requirements. Help verify that planned test conditions will test all functions and features effectively. + Perform impact analysis for issues assigned to self and software engineers. + Actively assist with project- and code-level problem solving, such as suggesting paths to explore when testing engineers encounter a debugging problem, and escalate urgent issues. + Lead debugging efforts for complex data or performance issues; escalate risks as needed. **Documentation** + Create and maintain technical documentation, including data mappings, transformation logic, unit test results, and operational runbooks. + Review technical documentation for the code for accuracy, completeness, and usability. + Document and maintain the reviews conducted and the unit test results. **Process, Compliance & Governance** + Follow established SDLC, data governance, security, and audit frameworks. + Support internal and external audit requests related to the data platform. + Ensure engineering practices adhere to corporate standards. **Technical Leadership (T4 Expectation)** + Serve as a subject matter expert for Investments data flows, platform components, and system integrations. + Coach and mentor team members through training sessions and knowledge‑sharing forums. + Contribute to reusable frameworks, knowledge repositories, and best practices. **Qualifications & Required Skills** **Technical Skills** + Strong hands-on experience in developing, enhancing, and troubleshooting ETL mappings, sessions, and workflows in Informatica (PowerCenter / IDMC or IICS) + Ability to design scalable ETL solutions following best practices. + Proficient in writing complex SQL queries involving joins, subqueries and analytical functions. + Expertise in optimizing SQL queries for improved performance with good understanding of database execution plans, indexing, and ETL optimization techniques. + Working knowledge of Unix commands for file handling, process monitoring, and log analysis. Ability to write and modify basic shell scripts. + Experience of scheduling batch jobs using Control‑M.
