Job Purpose
Intercontinental Exchange presents a unique opportunity for a full-time Lead Systems Engineer to join a high-performance team of engineers responsible for the design, implementation, and support of mission-critical infrastructure. The Lead Engineer is responsible for ensuring high availability and performance across multiple production and nonproduction environments that support core ICE businesses globally. This role involves collaborating with developers, operations teams, and business stakeholders to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of delivered platforms while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, including infrastructure design, root cause analysis, platform automation, and active engagement in technical discourse with peers.
Responsibilities
Educate and mentor team members, operations staff and other departments on best practices of Linux and Windows infrastructure and application deployment methodologies and technologiesLead in the design, planning and implementation of server and application delivery solutionsTune and design systems infrastructure for maximum available performanceAutomation of manual tasks using scripting and application developmentInvestigate and adopt new technologies & tools as needs ariseRespond to and assist with production operations in a 24/7 environmentEvaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patchesProvide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutionsProvide support to and coordinate with Developers, Operations staff, and End-UsersEnsure streamlined application deployments as part of the overall SDLCManage infrastructure lifecycles, including procurement, buildout, ongoing hygienic support, and decommissionParticipate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support and change eventsKnowledge and Experience
Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering / Development8+ years of experience with the Linux Operating System (RedHat variants preferred)Top-tier critical thinking and problem-solving skillsAdvanced Linux administration and engineering including kernel tuning, performance testing, and benchmarkingDemonstrable experience coding with any one or combination of Python, Bash, Go, Ruby, etcExperience with automation and configuration management using Puppet, Chef, Ansible or equivalentWorking knowledge of git, Jenkins, GitHub, ArgoCD, and similar toolingExpertise in Ansible, Puppet, Chef or similarWorking knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient infrastructure platform designProficiency with enterprise architectural concepts including DNS, authentication, logging, monitoring, and alertingWorking knowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availabilityAbility to specify hardware requirements and make recommendations based on application needsAbility to work in a service-oriented team environmentProject Management, organization, and time management skillsCustomer focus and dedication to the best possible user experienceAbility to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical business peersThorough understanding of core system security & hardening concepts and processesDesired Knowledge and Experience
Working knowledge of the creation, support and deployment of Podman/Docker ContainersWorking knowledge of the setup and configuration of Kubernetes and orchestration platforms such as OpenShift, Tanzu, or equivalentExperience reviewing and enforcing system configurations against compliance requirementsExpertise with Grafana, Tableau, or other enterprise reporting tools#LI-SH3
