Position Summary:

CVS Health is seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader for the role of Lead Director - Software Development Engineering to spearhead a strategic initiative within Aetna Technology. This position demands exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for delivering innovative IT solutions that address critical business challenges.

A successful candidate will collaborate closely with business leadership to onboard a new platform and define a phased implementation approach for this strategic initiative. This role offers an opportunity to shape the future of technology at Aetna by driving transformation through cutting-edge solutions and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and coach a team of Principal and Lead Engineers to build a strategic workflow platform for Aetna TechnologyDefine and communicate the broader vision while executing the IT strategy in alignment with organizational standardsWork closely with business leaders to align deliverables with business requirementsServe as the primary point of contact for business leaders and IT stakeholders to onboard a new platform and expand it without compromising qualityManage an annual budget of $15M+ to achieve business goals in alignment with IT strategy, and establish a streamlined team structure to execute this initiative using a product-based modelDevelop and maintain roadmaps that align critical business needs with scalable technical solutionsLeverage performance data to create feedback loops from business stakeholders that drive continuous insight and improvementChampion strong product management and agile mindsets by actively communicating team successes and identifying areas for growthBuild and lead high-performing teams capable of overcoming complex technical challenges to solve business-critical problems

Required Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in software development or architecture7+ years of experience managing teams in a large-scale organization, with expertise in coaching and leading teams aligned with business priorities5+ years of experience building and managing large-scale enterprise initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

A proven track record of delivering workflow solutions such as Salesforce and ServiceNowExperience implementing large SaaS-based solutions to solve critical business problemsStrong foundational knowledge in AI, with hands-on experience using technologies such as Salesforce Agentforce, Moveworks, or agentic AI automationExcellent understanding of integration services, API platforms, and microservices architecture principlesExperience in healthcare domains such as claims, providers, and eligibilityFamiliarity with cloud networking and firewall implementation for new platformsExceptional teamwork and collaboration skills, with a growth mindset focused on agility and continuous improvementSolid understanding of core programming and computer science concepts, including cloud computing, AI/ML, and microservices architecture

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
