Lead Director Experience Design
CVS Health
At CVS Health, we’re building a world of health around every consumer and surrounding ourselves with dedicated colleagues who are passionate about transforming health care.
As the nation’s leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues – caring for people where, when and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day.
The Director of Experience Design is an integral part of an innovative and bold initiative that takes a modern approach of disciplined agile and lean software practices aimed at transforming healthcare and pharmacy. The Experience Design Director is essential to ensuring success and end-user satisfaction within and across software products in a highly collaborative environment that follows Lean Agile delivery methods alongside app development teams. The Experience Design Director position is responsible for Experience Design practice leadership for a team of Experience Designers that are aligned to product teams in Pharmacy Services and across Enterprise Technology organizations. The role is responsible for the product assignments and career development of their direct reports, and to manage departmental budgeting while also ensuring that Experience Design execution is successful. You will coordinate multiple design workstreams to provide a holistic experience and creative direction for Business to Business and Enterprise experiences, including accessibility considerations, data driven design decisions and know how to work with an enterprise-level design system.
The role will recruit, hire, train, and provide robust professional growth opportunities for UX designers and managers on their team. You will collaborate with peers and colleagues to coordinate Experience strategy and vision across the Design team. The role will help educate both business and technology stakeholders on Lean Agile models and how the traditional UX Design role changes, in that a human-centered approach in design perspective and practice is maintained from discovery through iterative delivery. You will promote human-centered design and product mindsets to all who you work with while representing Design in executive-level discussions.
The Experience Design Director position is also responsible for leading educational initiatives both within the Design and the broader Enterprise Technology organizations where the Experience Designer role and Human-Centered Design as part of their software delivery model can be less familiar.
You must be able to work in a hybrid model that will depend on what’s needed for both the Experience Design practice and any product teams you support: for example, new efforts may be in person for a few weeks – through MVP (minimum viable product). This is a high visibility leadership role that works with both Business and Technology Leadership in driving adoption of Human-Centered Design as part of the company’s continued evolution in technical modernization within the healthcare industry.
Success in this role is measured by leading effective adoption of a Human-Centered Design mindset both within product teams and across the larger Pharmacy Services and Enterprise Technology organizations, as well as leading an effective practice team for Experience Design execution. Additionally, deep experience with user-centered design principles and user research methodologies from the problem space through the solution space is crucial for success in the role.
