Lead Director, Enterprise Patient Safety

And we do it all with heart, each and every day. **Position Summary** The Enterprise Patient Safety Director plays a critical leadership role in advancing patient safety across CVS Health. This role is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating patient safety risks through data-driven insights, cross-functional collaboration, and the implementation of enterprise-wide safety strategies. The Director will serve as a trusted advisor to business unit leaders, guiding the development of sustainable safety practices that promote high-quality care, reduce harm, and protect the organization’s clinical, reputational, and financial assets. This position requires a dynamic, clinically grounded leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and brings a systems-thinking mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for continuous improvement. **Key Responsibilities** + Lead enterprise-wide patient safety initiatives by identifying emerging risks through rigorous data analysis, workflow evaluation, and systems review. + Collaborate with operational leaders to design and implement process improvements and system enhancements that mitigate safety vulnerabilities. + Partner with legal, litigation, and claims teams to extract learnings from adverse events and translate them into proactive safety strategies. + Promote a culture of safety grounded in Just Culture principles, fostering transparency, accountability, and continuous learning. + Serve as a strategic thought partner to business units in the development of multi-year patient safety plans and enterprise safety scorecard contributions. + Support enterprise patient safety governance structures, including cross-functional committees and working groups. + Provide clinical and operational expertise in the review of serious safety events, guiding root cause analyses and facilitating multidisciplinary investigations. **Required Qualifications** + 5+ years of experience as a licensed clinician (Pharmacist, RN, MD, DO), with a strong foundation in patient care and clinical decision-making. + Demonstrated leadership in complex, fast-paced environments, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive results. + Proficiency in proactive risk mitigation methodologies, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and systems-level thinking. + Experience leading or contributing to cross-functional projects involving technical teams (e.g., analysts, developers, data scientists) and business subject matter experts. + Polished executive presence, with comfort presenting to and engaging with senior leadership. + Strong organizational and project management skills, with a track record of managing multiple initiatives and meeting deadlines. + Ability to maintain flexibility and resilience, operating effectively in a dynamic, evolving environment. **Preferred Qualifications** + Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred. + Skilled communicator and collaborator with the ability to influence across all levels of leadership using data and sound reasoning. + High energy, organized, and creative individual with strong interpersonal skills. + Strong analytical acumen with the ability to interpret large, complex data sets and generate actionable insights. + Critical thinker with the ability to assess multifaceted clinical programs and identify safety vulnerabilities. + Agile and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple intricate projects, pivot quickly, and prioritize effectively. + Strong clinical background and systems-level thinking to support innovation in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. + Self-starter with intellectual curiosity and a drive to master new subject matter across pharmacy and healthcare domains. + Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies, human factors, and proactive risk mitigation strategies (e.g., FMEA, RCA). + Experience with electronic health information exchange and healthcare data systems. **Education** + Bachelor’s required + Master’s degree preferred + Active clinical licensure in good standing **Travel** + Some travel required for site visits, conferences and retreats **Pay Range** The typical pay range for this role is: $100,000.00 - $231,540.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
