The Laboratory Assistant I (Outpatient Phlebotomist) position supports outpatient laboratory daily operations by providing excellence in patient services, proper phlebotomy specimen collection, alliquoting, complete accuracy in Epic registration, centrifuge usage, drug screens, error-free documentation as well as overall compliance with regulatory standards. The Lab Assistant 1 role is essential to maintaining efficient workflow, patient satisfaction and quality laboratory results for subsequent patient care. \n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n\nPerforms proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen with 2 forms of ID with zero labeling errors.\nAccurate patient registration, requisitioning, and operational fluency in Epic.\nProper labeling, processing and preparation of patient specimens for laboratory testing.\nComplete specimen batches in a timely manner for courier pickup or send specimens through the tube system properly.\nCommunicate outpatient needs for adequate inventory and is proficient with system reporting requests.\nCompleting all documentation requirements including outpatient daily, weekly and monthly checklists.\nFollow organizational policies and maintain a compliant environment including adherence to all laboratory procedures, HIPPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines.\nParticipates in quality assurance programs and maintains all requirements for departmental work flow.\nMaintains educational requirements, outpatient in services and assigned training as it relates to outpatient lab workflows.\nIs flexible and willing to make changes for the benefit of the team.\n\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nRequired: High school diploma or equivalent \nVocational phlebotomy (or related) course\/program, or 2 years of working phlebotomy experience.\n\n
\n

Preferred Skills and Experience:\n\nProblem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred \nGood written and oral communication skills preferred. \nRequires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes. \n\n
\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nMay require lifting (Up to 20 pounds) and carrying supplies.\nThe position is frequently in motion and requires repetitive use of hands (e.g. computer keyboard usage), sitting, squatting, walking or standing for long periods of time, up to 6 hours per day.\n\n
\n

Location and Travel Requirements:\n\nOnsite at Cayuga Medical Center 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850, with ability to work at other area locations as scheduled\/assigned.\nShift: Per Diem. Days FLEX. Anticipated 8-Hour shifts to be assigned during Outpatient Lab Operational Hours - 7am to 5pm, M-F and Saturdays 7am to 1pm. CMC Outpatient Lab working shifts and hours are subject to availability. The candidate will have advanced notice to pick up schedule shifts ahead of time as well as unexpected shift availability with shorter notice. Minimum Expectations: Working 8 hours every 2 weeks. The candidate selected for this role will have a designated location ahead of time to report to, however the CMC Outpatient assignment's are subject to change based upon needs of the Laboratory.\n0%-10% Travel can be expected in this role\n\n

Pay Range Disclosure:\n\nStandard Rate of $17.79 to $24.04 per hour plus benefits\n\n
