Laboratory Care Technician
Job Overview

Fairview Range is hiring a Laboratory Care Technician for our Laboratory Department in Hibbing, MN.

 

The Laboratory Care Technician (LCT) will work with diverse populations within a healthcare environment and provide quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with patients, families, and coworkers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection as well as provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing when appropriate. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems, monitoring computer logs for inaccurate work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in the LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual of team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals.

Schedule: This position will work 72 to 80 hours per two weeks. The shift length will be 8-hours rotating Day and Evening shift. Weekends: Every other weekend

The hospital lab at Fairview Range provides 24/7 support for Fairview Range Medical Center and the Fairview Mesaba Clinics. We are a CAP accredited, highly complex lab with a fully functional microbiology lab including molecular testing and have on-site pathology support. We’re proud to offer a collaboration with the M Health Fairview laboratory systems, which allows our patients local access to a more extensive array of lab services.

 

About this department:

CAP accredited.Lab consists of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, coagulation, transfusion medicine including antibody identification, microbiology, histology, cytology, and pathology.Part of multidisciplinary care team supporting each inpatient department.Lab staff include MLS/MT, HT, MLT, and LCT as well as tech specialists in various lab sections.

Responsibilities

Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures.Obtains blood specimens for all identified populationsPerforms phlebotomy at various sites to meet patient/family and other customer needs.Uses appropriate communication skills to meet patient/family and other customer needs.Demonstrates proficiency with point of care testing if applicable.Train others in phlebotomy skillsensures specimens are acceptable for testing including properly identifiedProcesses specimens prior to testing or sending to reference labsPerforms daily quality control, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance for tools in the department. (positive patient identification devices ect.)Monitors inventory, ordering and restocking supplies

Required Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of Phlebotomy TrainingTraining as a phlebotomist, clinical assistant, MLA, MLT, MT or LPN or 1 year experience in health care related workPhlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratoryCertification as a Phlebotomist
