Lab Ventilation Engineer - Life Sciences Client Site Job ID 253649 Posted 09-Jan-2026 Service line GWS Segment Role type Full-time Areas of Interest Engineering/Maintenance, Facilities Management, Laboratory Services Location(s) Indianapolis - Indiana - United States of America **About the Role:** The CBRE **Lab Ventilation Engineer** will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for laboratory ventilation systems, including Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC), Ventilated Balance Enclosures (VBE), and Fume Hoods. This role addresses the growing demand for engineering support driven by capital projects and LRL operations, ensuring safe and compliant lab environments. The position combines technical expertise in ventilation systems with proactive engagement in lab renovations, equipment moves, and compliance with industry standards (NSF-49, ASHRAE 110). This role is critical for maintaining lab air balance, mitigating safety hazards, and supporting CBRE’s FM system ownership from an HSE compliance perspective. **What You’ll Do:** **Lab Ventilation Engineering & Operations Support** + Act as SME for lab ventilation systems (BSCs, VBEs, fume hoods). + Monitor, analyze, and resolve airflow and ventilation issues impacting lab safety. + Develop and refine preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for ventilation equipment. + Support lab renovations and equipment moves to maintain proper airflow and room balance. + Assist maintenance teams with troubleshooting PM failures and remediation options. **Compliance & Standards** + Ensure compliance with NSF-49, ASHRAE 110, and other applicable standards. + Partner with LRL HSE to validate testing methods and alternative solutions. + Provide technical input for deviation wording and compliance documentation. + Maintain accurate ventilation system drawings and SOPs. **Capital Project Support** + Collaborate with project teams during lab renovations and capital projects. + Participate in design reviews, feasibility studies, and airflow evaluations. + Provide technical oversight during commissioning and qualification of ventilation systems. + Align FM building ownership with lab renovation activities. **What You’ll Need:** + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; or 10+ years of relevant experience. + Expertise in laboratory ventilation systems and airflow balancing. + Familiarity with NSF-49, ASHRAE 110, and other ventilation standards. + Strong communication skills to engage with scientists, HSE teams, and project stakeholders. + Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver solutions that enhance lab safety and compliance. **Why CBRE?** CBRE is the premier provider of Facilities Management and Laboratory Services.
