Job Description
The Lab Technologist in Microbiology will competently perform all assigned departmental duties, including pre-analytical tasks such as receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing, and highly complex microbiological testing on various samples including donor, environmental, raw material, and biologic product samples. The role involves conducting microbial culture, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct microbial culture, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques.
+ Culture tissue samples using aseptic techniques.
+ Read and interpret microbial growth on plates and perform isolation plating.
+ Adhere to cGMP and other regulatory requirements applicable to microbiological testing.
+ Evaluate test results accurately and timely, and recognize and report unusual test results.
+ Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.
+ Recognize equipment malfunctions or technical problems and take appropriate steps to resolve.
+ Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Prepare and maintain reports/records and perform computer data entry.
+ Maintain departmental supplies within established inventory levels.
+ Participate in continuing education and attend meetings as required.
+ Assist with training and mentoring of new employees and volunteers.
+ Participate in team-oriented projects for the development and implementation of validations, process improvements, and SOPs.
+ Perform other duties as assigned and assist in other laboratory areas as directed.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
+ Minimum one year of experience working in a microbiology laboratory.
+ Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, including aseptic technique, microbial culture, identification, and enumeration methods.
+ Ability to evaluate, interpret, and report accurate test results using current testing methodologies.
+ Competency in laboratory skills for liquid and material handling.
+ Strong computer skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Prefer two or more years of microbiology experience.
+ Working knowledge of regulatory and quality requirements.
+ Experience with laboratory sciences and techniques.
+ Familiarity with gram staining, microscopy, BACTEC, Maldi Bruker, bioburden testing, and sterility testing.
Work Environment
The work environment is a large, well-lit, clean, and positive microbiology laboratory. The regular schedule is Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotational work on Saturdays. When working on Saturday, the employee will not work on Monday. The role offers an opportunity to support the new Microbiology lab with Environmental Monitoring and ID testing, and the potential to transition to a permanent position based on performance. Performance reviews are conducted every six weeks to ensure continuous feedback.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norcross, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
