Lab Technician - 1st shift

Job Description

The Production Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tasks in a cell culture environment, utilizing biosafety cabinets and aseptic techniques. This role involves preparing solutions, executing serial dilutions, pipetting into various containers, and processing samples using centrifugation. The technician will also support quality control activities, ensure accurate record-keeping, and maintain organized work areas while following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Prepare solutions and execute serial dilutions using shake flasks, pipettes, balances, and standard pouring techniques.Accurately pipette into plates, flasks, and tubes according to written protocols and schedules.Process samples through centrifugation and subsequent transfers.Support QC activities such as purity testing through plating methods, and document results.Maintain accurate records and organized work areas.Ensure proper setup and thorough cleanup of workspaces.Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements.Maintain strong time awareness for all process steps and communicate promptly when instructions or timing are unclear.

Essential Skills

High school diploma or GED.2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting working with biological materials and equipment.Proficiency with standard laboratory equipment such as pH meters, conductivity meters, and pipettes.Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and technical processes aimed at improving quality and efficiency.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associate degree in a relevant life sciences field (molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, etc.) is preferred.Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques.Experience working with cell cultures and proficiency in aseptic technique.Previous industry experience in pharma, biotech, or medical devices, especially in an ISO-certified environment.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a laboratory setting with exposure to biological materials. The position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety glasses. The role involves standing for extended periods and performing repetitive manual tasks. The shift is Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. A 7am start time may be considered if needed. The team reports to a Production Supervisor and involves daily engagement with 3-4 coworkers.

This is a Contract position based out of Middleton, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
