Job Description
The Lab Technician will work in a laboratory setting performing solid phase and liquid phase extractions and digestions within their holding times, following EPA drinking water test methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role involves running 5-7 tests of varying lengths, including 2-4 run rates and 8-hour runs. The Lab Technician will collaborate with two other Lab Techs and report to an Analyst who plans the sample schedule, ensuring each day is well-organized.
Responsibilities
Prepare organic samples for analysis through extraction or digestion procedures.Perform required extractions and digestions within specified holding times according to test methods outlined by rule, permit, or Quality Assurance Plans.Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated before beginning tests and document this work.Accurately transcribe all identifying information, including sample ID numbers, into records or computer databases.Ensure that all calculations are correct and document this work as required by company SOPs and regulatory agencies.Complete appropriate confirmatory tests or procedures within their holding time and document this work.Identify, document, and initiate corrective actions on any quality control problem related to the procedures being followed.Alert the Quality System Manager of any sample that may produce suspect results due to matrix or preservation problems.Maintain equipment in working condition and document all maintenance and repairs.Order or initiate the ordering of reagents and supplies required by the procedures.Notify the Laboratory Director, Project Manager, or Organic & Chromatography Lead Person of conditions that make it difficult or impossible to meet productivity schedules.Essential Skills
Experience in chemistry, laboratory, microbiology, wet chemistry, titration, analytical chemistry, GC, and HPLC.Bachelor's degree or an associate's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology.Patient and collaborative personality, with strong teamwork skills.Additional Skills & Qualifications
6 months of recent experience in an environmental lab or within a wet chemistry lab.Microbiology experience to assist with the micro lab at times.Work Environment
The Lab Technician will work in an environmental lab located in Ypsilanti. The facility is an older, smaller building, contributing to a close-knit team environment. The lab operates with a smaller team of 22 employees. The candidate will spend most of the day under the fume hood, requiring significant standing time at the bench. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no weekend work, though occasional overtime may be required if a sample run extends past 5:00 PM.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
