Job Title: Laboratory Support Technician, Cell Culture Operations

Placement: 1-Year Contract

What You Will Achieve

The prime purpose of this position is to provide technical and facility support to the Cell Culture group in the Early Bioprocess Development Department in Vaccines Research and Development. This entails preparing solutions and cell culture supplies as well as preparing bioreactors for use. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in the coordination of all maintenance activities for Early Bioprocess Development and coordinate activities with scientists and other techs.

How You Will Achieve It

Maintain inventory and order bulk chemicals, cell culture supplies and other common supplies not stocked in Thermo-Fisher stockroom; supervise maintenance of the Thermo-Fisher stockroom to ensure supplies are available and follow up when stocks are depleted; maintain the inventory system for cell culture supplies and equipment

Stage experiments as requested by scientific staff including but not limited to: 

•\tAssist scientists in formulation of custom reagents and media 

•\tMaintain cell culture media and reagent supply 

•\tAssist with plasmid preparation to support scientific activities 

•\tPrepare and autoclave requested tubing connection devices and transfer bottles to support experimental work

● Collect and secure biohazard waste from the labs and pilot areas; stock local lab supply areas with frequently used disposables

● Calibrate, maintain and operate scientific instruments, coordinate maintenance of equipment and facilities with service providers and vendors

● Assist with cell culture harvest and product recovery procedures as needed

● Perform other assigned scientific support activities as needed

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in scientific field with 0-2yrs of technical experience or high school diploma with 2-5 years of appropriate technical experience

● Proficiency with personal computers including familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook functions

● Good communication and reading skills – works well from written and verbal instruction

● Willing to work a flexible time schedule

Nice-to-Have

● Course work in chemistry is highly desirable to aid understanding of chemical formulae in formulation instructions

● Course work in biology or biotechnology is highly desirable for supporting work with bioreactors

Physical/Mental Requirements

● Some heavy lifting (approximately 50 lb or less) of supplies and equipment is required

● Willingness for weekend work or overtime, as it may occasionally be required 

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Pearl River, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
