Lab Engineer, PCBA Test, Kuiper - Ground Systems Lab
Description Project Kuiper is an ambitious initiative launching a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Kuiper Ground Systems team owns the end-to-end technical lifecycle for all Telemetry, Tracking, and Control and Ground Gateway Terminals. In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with development teams from software and hardware as well as program management and other stakeholders to make sure we can rapidly test Ground System requirements and capabilities. You will design, build and maintain the lab infrastructure. You will be hands on, making sure lab environments are highly available, while scaling team’s processes to ensure long term success. Key job responsibilities The PCBA Test Lab Engineer will support the specification, development, test, and operation of the hardware test for ground station satellite hardware. This work will include cross-functional coordination to determine test requirements and capabilities. You will ensure HW testing supports both development work and end-product validation. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% is a requirement. * Design, set up and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware; create and maintain lab documentation * Troubleshoot hardware, software and networking issues * Drive adoption of best practices in testbed maintainability * Manage equipment stock, procure lab equipment * Provide lab services to people working remotely (be the eyes and hands in the lab) About the team The Kuiper Ground Systems Engineering team owns the end-to-end technical lifecycle for all Telemetry, Tracking, and Control and Ground Gateway Terminals. This encompasses terminal development, manufacture, site improvements design, terminal installation, systemic failure resolution, terminal anomaly resolution including systemic failures, terminal Monitoring and Remediation Systems (MARS), terminal performance analytics, Terminal Technical Operations, and related product improvements. Basic Qualifications • B.S. in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field • 3+ years of work experience in Aerospace, Automotive, Robotics, Power Electronics, Consumer Electronics, and/or Communications field or combination thereof with hands-on testing and debugging programmable electronics hardware using electrical test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, etc.) • Experience creating detailed hardware test plans and procedures, driving products through verification and early manufacturing runs • Experience with engineering documentation (electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, requirements documentation, interface control, version control) • Experience with development of hardware-in-the-loop testing for medium volume applications (e.g. ground station modems, telecommunications infrastructure equipment, etc) • Knowledge of hardware and software tools for test automation (e.g. Python, C/C++, Linux etc.) • Experience with rapid iteration prototypes and joint hardware/firmware development; partnering with software/hardware engineers to bring-up and test new hardware designs • Familiarity and experience with several communications protocols (e.g. SPI, I2C, Ethernet, SerDES, Interlaken, JESD204, CAN-FD, RS-232/422/485, GPIB) Preferred Qualifications * Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems * Experience in computer networking (admin level) in a Consumer Electronics (or similar) lab environment. * Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools as needed to support the organization * Experience in developing/maintaining product test harnesses * Experience with embedded systems and consumer devices * Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $189,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
