Job Title: Junior Substation Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Join a dynamic engineering consulting firm as a Junior Substation Electrical Engineer in Calgary. This role involves supporting the substation group by working on project teams to design and develop a variety of projects, including utilities, substations, and data centers.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with project teams to create designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.Work throughout the detailed design process and guide projects through the construction phase (IFC).Adapt electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.Provide expertise on high voltage systems, with experience ranging from 100KV to 500KV.Engage in substation design, particularly with air insulated switchgear (AIS) and gas insulated switchgear (GIS).Mentor junior team members and support their development.Essential Skills
4-8 years of experience as an electrical engineer.Background in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environment is preferred.Substation physical layout design experience.Experience working in the detailed design phase of projects.Knowledge of IFC review points.High Voltage experience, with expertise in systems from 100KV to 500KV.Additional Qualifications
P.Eng designation is a nice-to-have.Ability to work on the owner side while understanding the pace of an EPC.Experience with gas insulated switchgear (GIS).Strong communication skills, eagerness to learn, and a positive attitude.Work Environment
Located in Calgary, Alberta, in an office setting at the Keynote building SE #540, the work environment offers a modern open concept with meeting rooms, a gym, and a Sunterra. The company follows a 9/80 schedule, working nine-hour days and having every other Friday off. The team consists of approximately 14 members, with an overall Utilities team including the Transmission group of about 30 people. The role includes indirect coaching and mentoring of junior team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
