Junior Legal Counsel – Enabling Pillar

To support the Senior Legal Counsel in delivering global legal service projects and enabling initiatives that strengthen governance, compliance, and risk management across Sub-Saharan Africa territories. The role focuses on project management, legal research, policy development, and technology adoption to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of legal services. Responsibilities Working with the Snr Legal Counsel in the delivery of Global Legal Service Projects for the benefit of the Legal Team to include project management across the wider team to align timelines, deliverables and transition requirements. Responsible for the monitoring of new laws, judgements and proposed regulations to impact the business. Analyses the potential implications and draft recommendations to include government participation, propose mitigation and business readiness. Support the People Function on restated internal policies, human rights opportunities to strengthen governance and enhance high-volume templates used by HR Operations. Research precedents and labour law trends to increase visibility and risk awareness to mitigate financial and reputational exposure inherent to workforce. Support delivery of technology and simplification workstreams to include ideation, design, legal team adoption and business deployment. Monitor and track legal workstreams for delivery under the Enterprise Risk Management program with horizon 3 scanning of immerging risks inherent to SA, Botswana and Sub-Sahara Africa Territories. Prepare reports to enhance visibility and influence mitigation efforts. Accountable for process design in collaboration with the wider legal team to enhance delivery of legal services across all areas of the business through simplification and dedicated ownership frameworks. Responsible for the identification of training programs to support team development against a needs base assessment aligned with the General Counsel. Support the reconciliation and tracking of product recalls or withdrawal s, advising on crisis management strategies, and ensuring compliance with notification requirements to regulators and consumers. Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal degree. Professional Status: Admission as an attorney or candidate attorney in progress. Experience: 1–3 years post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, compliance, or labor law. Additional Advantage: Exposure to project management, legal technology, and multinational business environments. Legal Qualification: LLB or equivalent; admission as an attorney or in progress. Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of labour law, corporate governance, and compliance frameworks. Analytical Ability: Skilled in interpreting legislation and assessing business impact. Project Management: Experience in managing timelines and deliverables across multiple stakeholders. Research & Drafting: Ability to prepare legal opinions, reports, and recommendations. Technology Awareness: Familiarity with legal tech tools and process automation. Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for stakeholder engagement. Strategic Thinking: Ability to anticipate emerging risks and propose proactive solutions. Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work across global and local teams. Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving priorities in a dynamic environment. Innovation: Drive for continuous improvement and simplification of legal processes.
