We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Construction Manager to oversee small retail and commercial remodels. The successful candidate will ensure safety compliance, manage project schedules, and coordinate with subcontractors. This role requires handling submittals, change orders, and RFIs, as well as reading and interpreting blueprints and site layouts. The Assistant Construction Manager will also propose bids, attend client meetings, and ensure job-site safety and security.
ResponsibilitiesPerform onsite management of small retail and commercial remodels.Enforce safety and conduct safety audits.Create project schedules and coordinate with subcontractors daily.Document activities and report updates in project management software.Handle submittals, change orders, RFIs, and other related documents.Read blueprints, drawings, and site layouts according to specifications.Propose bids and determine costs of labor and materials for projects.Attend client meetings and coordinate with clients onsite.Ensure daily job-site clean-up and set-up for the next day's operations.Secure and lock up the site before wrapping up the shift.Use basic hand and power tools occasionally.Essential SkillsExperience in construction management, site construction, and subcontractor management.Hands-on experience with carpentry, interiors, and general labor.Daily reporting and documentation skills using software.Knowledge of job site safety, construction engineering, inspection, codes, drawings, and schedules.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site layouts.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (Associate's degree minimum).Internship to 3 years of experience with a general contractor or related construction experience.Hands-on attitude and ability to work with tools.Willingness to work night shifts and weekends depending on project requirements.Ability to travel around the Chicagoland area for projects.Work EnvironmentThe Assistant Construction Manager will support projects ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000 within a 90-mile radius of the Mokena office. The role requires spending most of the time on-site, especially during the first few years, with work often conducted at night and on weekends. After gaining experience, there may be opportunities to work on larger daytime projects. The office environment is family-oriented, with a close-knit team of 20-25 employees. Expect to work 40-55 hours per week, including occasional Saturdays, in a secured area with trucks and equipment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.85/hr.
