Your Opportunity We’re seeking a Junior Archaeologist with experience in archaeology or anthropology to join our Environmental Services Team in Atlantic Canada. This is your opportunity to build your career with a team that offers mentorship from experienced, multi-disciplined professionals, time banking and flexibility, and travel across Atlantic Canada. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, this will be a full-time permanent position or a contract position with the potential to transition to a full-time permanent position based on performance and availability of work. The hiring process is ongoing, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Your Key Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of Stantec’s permitted Intermediate and Senior archaeologists, Junior Archaeologists assist with carrying out archaeological field work and reporting under current provincial and professional requirements. This can include assisting with: - Archaeological Walkovers: field walking at specified intervals to identify archaeological resources or evaluate archaeological resource potential - Test pit surveys: hand excavation of test pits along specified intervals to identify archaeological resources - Hand excavation of archaeological test units - Staking out archaeological grids - Recording and interpretation of soil stratigraphy and archaeological features - In-field artifact identification and office-based artifact cataloguing - Preparation of Archaeological Field Research Permit Applications and Archaeological Impact Assessment reports - Conducting supporting background research and preparing Archaeological Field Research Permit applications, Archaeological Impact Assessment reports, and contributing to environmental assessments - Travel, as required, to various local and/or remote field sites, with overnight travel sometimes required, and occasional 1-2 week shifts away from home - Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Program Your Capabilities and Credentials - A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required - Able to lift 50lbs and complete physically demanding fieldwork in a range of weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude - Willingness to travel within Atlantic Canada and work in remote locations with overnight stays for short and long durations - Able to work effectively in a team atmosphere and independently, as required - Strong initiative with the ability to adapt to changing conditions and make independent, informed decisions - Time management skills that include balancing short-term and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlines - Strong communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and electronic communications - The following skills are not required but would be considered an asset:- Knowledge of current provincial regulatory requirements relating to archaeology in Atlantic Canada - Experience working with GIS software and digital data collection tools - Experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing field programs Education and Experience A master’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, or equivalent, is preferred. Current graduate students in anthropology or archaeology are encouraged to apply. Academic or work experience in Atlantic Canada, particularly New Brunswick, is an asset. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
