Job Title: Journeyman Electrician

Job Description

As a Journeyman Electrician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems for commercial and industrial projects. You will work closely with architectural and electrical construction drawings and contribute to the successful completion of various electrical projects.

Responsibilities

Read and understand architectural and electrical construction drawings, ladder diagrams, symbols, and schedules.Prepare sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before the completion of walls, ceilings, or floors.Troubleshoot motors, motor controls, motor control centers, magnetic motor starters, transformers, and other equipment.Install and connect push-button controls, limit switches, pressure switches, float switches, flow switches, and other types of motor control devices.Pull branch circuit wiring and feeder cables through conduit, and terminate or splice wires using approved methods and materials.Connect wiring to lighting fixtures, motors, motor controllers, transformers, and other power equipment.Install control and distribution systems, such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, and transformers, using approved fasteners.Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using various testing instruments.Observe the function of installed equipment or systems to identify hazards and determine the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.Layout and install electrical work for commercial and industrial projects from drawings, sketches, and specifications, following national code guidelines.Measure, lay out, bend, and thread all types of electrical conduit (EMT, galvanized rigid, IMC, PVC).Interact professionally with customers.Adhere to OSHA safety standards.Instruct and train apprentices.Maintain daily time sheets.

Essential Skills

Extensive experience in laying out and installing commercial wiring.Minimum of 4 years of on-the-job training in addition to classroom training.Electrical troubleshooting, installation, and repair skills.Ability to work independently.Journeyman certification.Valid Michigan driver's license.Ability to travel to job sites and out of town when necessary.Effective written and communication skills.Blueprint reading experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with electrical conduit systems such as EMT, galvanized rigid, IMC, and PVC.Capability to train or lightly train apprentices.

Work Environment

Work in an indoor commercial space within an occupied school building. The shift is from 3pm to 11pm, so expect to encounter students, teachers, and staff. Respect for the environment and its occupants is essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of WYANDOTTE, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
