Job Summary
As an Automation Test Specialist, you take ownership to lead key enhancements in digital functions and ensure Telstra is investing in the right areas to deliver our T22 Strategy. You are responsible for driving innovative ways to test platforms that service our internal and external customers and promote analytics and robotics process automation for our tool and platform maintenance.You bring a breadth of skills and experience in automating testing for a software platform (frontend and backend); as well as expertise in building out automated deployment pipelines that support ongoing automated testing. Your knowledge in best practice standards for CI/CD delivery, expertise in technical leadership and analytics, and ability to deliver proactive automated remediation are critical to success in this role.Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing
Build next-level test automation suites for UI, APIs, and backend services that integrate seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines.
Drive shift-left testing, ensuring bugs are caught before they become production nightmares for all of us.
Be a test strategist & automation pro—optimize frameworks, scale test coverage, and make testing faster and smarter across Telstra.
Work side-by-side with developers to bake quality into every stage of the software lifecycle—testing isn’t a final step, it’s part of our Telstra journey!
Work with developers to design for testability and enable faster feedback loops across application and process.
Analyze test results, provide data-driven insights, and continuously improve automation strategies to developers.
Stay ahead of the curve by researching and experimenting with cutting-edge testing tools and techniques and implement which suites Telstra’s quality need.
Technical Skills:
Automation-First Testing
More than 5 years of experience in Manual and Automation Testing
Design, develop, and maintain robust test automation frameworks for web, and API layers.
Implement TDD/BDD practices and integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
Use tools like Selenium with Java, Playwright, Appium, Rest Assured, and Cucumber for automation.
Shift-Left Quality
Embed quality from the earliest stages of development.
Collaborate with developers to write testable, high-quality code and coach teams on best practices.
Drive early defect prevention and continuous improvement
Agile & DevOps Integration
Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives).
Collaborate with DevOps teams to optimize pipelines and enable continuous delivery.
Support production deployments and regression testing during fix-on-fail windows
Quality Leadership & Coaching
Act as a quality engineer, mentoring teams and influencing best practices.
Set quality standards and create test strategies aligned with Telstra’s AI and automation-first approach.
Work closely with Product Owners, Business Leads, and Quality Engineering Leads to ensure alignment.
What’ll Give You Bonus Points
You’ve run workshops or training to help teams improve their testing game.
You’ve worked in telecom (OSS/BSS)
You know a thing or two about security testing, mobile automation, or contract testing and comfortable talking about those and get hands dirty when needed.
You’ve dabbled in AI-driven test automation (or are super keen to learn).
Experience in performance and load testing at scale.
