**General Summary:**
Unum is hiring a Business Analyst I (IT) to support an agile delivery team by translating business needs into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria. This role partners closely with the Product Owner and technical team to ensure solutions are well‑defined, testable, and aligned with customer and business goals. The BA I contributes to planning, estimation, and continuous improvement efforts while helping the team deliver high‑quality features through effective requirements elicitation and collaboration.
**Job Specifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
+ 2+ years of experience on an Agile team.
+ Strong analytical, logical, and detail‑oriented problem‑solving skills.
+ Passionate about business direction, customer experience, and delivering results.
+ Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
+ Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and an effective communicator (written and verbal).
+ Strong writing skills for documenting and communicating requirements.
+ Effective team player with the ability to work with diverse partners across the organization.
+ Innovative approach to problem-solving.
+ IIBA certification is a plus.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Maintain a holistic understanding of the IT Delivery roadmap and ensure changes are accurately reflected in backlog tools to support automated reporting and metrics.
+ Validate that identified product and adoption KPIs can be measured within delivery activities and are incorporated early in the agile process.
+ Maintain an understanding of client personas and apply them to refine work items and guide team alignment on customer needs.
+ Ensure integrity and traceability of work items as they are decomposed and refined, identifying gaps such as descoping risks or the need for additional requirements.
+ Collaborate with the Product Owner and subject matter experts to define clear, concise user stories with precise acceptance criteria delivered just‑in‑time.
+ Provide accurate, current information to support Product Owner prioritization and high‑quality decision‑making.
+ Ensure functional and non‑functional requirements are well documented and properly represented in the product backlog.
+ Validate that backlog items meet Definition of Ready/Done and comply with enterprise standards for quality, data integrity, and planning horizons.
+ Gather, analyze, and document data relevant to impacted processes.
+ Fully engage in and apply methodologies within the product area (e.g., Customer Journey Mapping, Agile, Program Execution Framework).
+ Use appropriate techniques to elicit client needs (e.g., personas, story mapping) and choose effective representations of requirements with full traceability.
+ Participate in Business Analyst forums and share best practices.
+ Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and market advancements.
+ Ensure documentation, change controls, and transition activities are in place for production deployments.
+ Partner with Product Owners to manage and groom the backlog.
+ Review acceptance criteria with engineers to ensure testability and support effective automated test coverage.
+ Collaborate with architects, software engineers, and test engineers to ensure delivered features meet Product Owner expectations.
+ Perform process mapping and story decomposition to support appropriate planning granularity.
+ Collaborate with the Agile team during planning and coordinate with the Scrum Master and Product Owner on sprint deliverables.
+ Maintain detailed knowledge of assigned business processes and provide improvement recommendations.
+ Gather requirements for user experiences, contribute to information architecture, and partner with UXD to ensure excellent user experience.
+ Evaluate native functionality from third‑party/cloud solutions and identify configuration opportunities (layouts, workflows, reporting, dashboards).
+ Support internal test execution, including documenting results, tracking defects, and troubleshooting issues.
+ Keep ALM tools up to date and communicate progress, plans, and impediments during daily stand‑ups.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$60,500.00-$123,400.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
