Investment Portfolio Manager
Aon has an exciting opportunity to join the Delegated Consulting Services (DCS) team in London as a Portfolio Manager. DCS, which is more generically known as implemented consulting or fiduciary management, is Aon’s offering to EMEA clients to help them handle and outsource some or all of their day to day investment decision making and implementation. You would sit within the portfolio management team in Aon’s asset management business (AIL), which is FCA authorised. We implement investments through a fund of funds structure – we are not stock pickers. You will focus on handling individual client portfolios in line with the strategy determined by the Investment Strategy Committee and clients’ outstanding situations and considerations. You will work closely with investment consultants to achieve this. You will also assist with handling asset class funds, working closely with Aon’s asset allocation and manager research teams to bring our best ideas into portfolios. Handling client portfolios You will become a lead portfolio manager for a range of clients. This includes fully discretionary mandates where you will ensure that house views are reflected in portfolios in a consistent and timely manner. We are looking for the candidate to spend a significant amount of time on OCIO mandates where DCS does all the implementation of mandates, but the investment decisions (eg tactical asset allocation, manager selection) can be made either by the client (under Aon’s advice) or DCS. For such mandates, you will work with clients, their investment consultant, and operations teams to build portfolios and governance structures that meet the client’s needs. You will be comfortable attending client meetings. You will supervise portfolios on an ongoing basis to ensure they comply with restrictions. You will help draft client instruction letters, plan transitions and trades, and execute trades via Bloomberg. You will be a trusted guide that meets with clients and third-party evaluators to explain the mandate structure and suggest ways to make it more efficient. Managing funds You will also assist lead portfolio managers in handling AIL’s asset class funds, to ensure our best ideas are effectively collected in the funds. This will include engaging and debating with Aon’s manager research, asset allocation, and risk teams, as well as various investment committees. You will generate new investment/ trade ideas. You will understand the underlying managers in the asset class funds and stay up to date on their performance and positioning. You will help to make progress on our net zero dedication. You will drive high level client messaging about portfolio performance, asset allocation and manager changes. Essential skills Validated experience working in asset management, investment consultancy, or an allied industry Attention to detail and accuracy Numerical and analytical skills Social skills, both verbal and written Ability to build and maintain good relationships with your team, and internal and external clients Preferred skills An investment qualification – either fully qualified or making good progress A good understanding of all major asset classes, and of different investment structures (eg pooled vs segregated) Previous experience in a portfolio construction / management role An understanding of pension scheme liabilities and the key drivers We believe this role would suit anybody currently involved in investment consultancy, transitions, or a portfolio implementation or management role, who wants to advance their career and become more involved in portfolio management.
