The International and SCS Chief Accountant operates as a central point of accountability and coordination across multiple finance and business functions, coordinating accounting-related roadmap priorities for the Business Unit with upstream business partners and maintaining timely and effective communications with the Business Unit and other stakeholders. The role proactively partners closely with the Business Unit to shape transactions pre-execution and to anticipate reporting and control impacts before close. **Key Responsibilities** **Month-End Close Leadership** + Lead the monthly and quarterly close for GAAP and Adjusted results, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the Business Unit P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow metrics. + Drive the cadence and critical path to resolve accounting complexities timely, achieve target close timelines, and enhance connectivity with FP&A and Business Unit counterparts to minimize surprises. + Ensure clear, timely documentation and communication of significant accounting determinations and judgments; maintain auditable, well-referenced memos and the Non-GAAP adjustments log. + Deliver Business Unit management packs on schedule (GAAP & Adjusted bridge, driver-based variance analysis, and actionable insights). **Business Partnering & Cross-Functional Collaboration** + Run a periodic "Deal Desk / Pre‑Execution T&Cs Clinic" with Sales, Legal, Procurement, FP&A and others for all in-scope contracts (e.g., customer/vendor agreements above defined materiality/complexity thresholds); ensure accounting is engaged before signature and issues are resolved rapidly. + Act as the primary liaison with Technical Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Shared Services, Global Process Owners, and Technology to resolve issues and align data and reporting. + Provide timely, written conclusions to Business Unit queries within agreed SLAs; track and report median time-to-decision and "issues prevented" resulting from proactive engagement. **Technology, Data & Innovation** + Champion the adoption and effective use of Oracle, OneStream, and data lake/reporting platforms; leverage Close/Task Manager for orchestration and audit trail. + Identify and drive process simplification/automation opportunities each quarter (e.g., rule-based accruals, auto-certifiable reconciliations, standardized analytics), measured by processes eliminated/simplified/automated/harmonized. + Partner with Technology to maintain data quality at key handoffs (subledger→GL→EPM) and to improve OneStream first-pass validation rates. **Governance, Policies & Controls (ICFR/SOX)** + Execute and evidence key controls on time; coordinate walkthroughs/updates for process changes; maintain precision of controls and information used in controls. + Manage Business Unit-specific control exceptions and remediation with clear owners and deadlines; track median remediation cycle time and sustain a low exception rate. + Ensure Non-GAAP policies are consistently applied within the Business Unit; document rationale, calculations, and governance for Adjusted results. **Qualifications** **Education & Certification** + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent required. **Experience** + 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in complex, matrixed, multinational environments; deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and the financial close. + Demonstrated leadership accelerating the close (enterprise/EPM experience) and improving first‑pass consolidation quality. + Material experience with pre‑execution contract/transaction reviews and cross‑functional "deal desk" decisioning. **Skills** + Strong analytical and technical accounting skills; excellent communication and stakeholder management. + Proficiency in Oracle, OneStream, and data lake/reporting technologies. + Fluency with close orchestration tools (e.g., FCCS Task Manager) and reconciliation tooling; comfort with data quality rules and automation methods. **Preferred Attributes** + Experience in large‑scale finance transformation or ERP implementations. + Familiarity with SEC reporting and MD&A preparation. + Ability to influence without direct authority and drive outcomes across diverse teams. + Experience with SOX/ICFR program execution, access reviews, SOD remediation, and audit liaison at quarter‑end. **Additional Information for Internal Applicants** + Position will be posted internally through December 1, 2025 + Position Paygrade: 40F **Employee Type:** Permanent UPS is committed to providing a workplace free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. **Other Criteria:** UPS is an equal opportunity employer.
