Job Overview

Fairview is looking for Interns for our Quality program we offer over the summer.  This is a great opportunity for students looking to explore the Quality Improvement space.  M Health Fairview Quality internship program for graduate and undergraduate degree student. This position is a 32 to 40 hours per week for an 8-12 week period (flexible duration, May through August) to impact the care of patients while gaining valuable healthcare and quality improvement skills. The intern will be provided unique opportunities to learn quality improvement methodologies, project management, data analysis, and patient safety principles while working at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, a large academic medical center in Minneapolis.

 

We are currently looking for 8 interns to take part in our program this summer.  

Responsibilities

Core work will align with the strategic plan across Quality and Safety.Oversight and meetings with quality leaderParticipate in a quality improvement educational session with adult/pediatric residentsHands on experience with data collection and analysis, and chart reviewsRounding with providers, nurses, patients and familyAttend team meetings/discussionsExpand on one’s understanding of hospital operations and quality and safety goals, while learning from experienced QI consultantsParticipate in process improvement projects as designated by QI TeamOpportunity to create a portfolio piece of work product based on project work during the internshipAbility to work as a part of a team, strong interpersonal skillsClear and effective communication skillsAbility to balance competing demandsWillingness to learn and apply new methodologies


Required Qualifications

·       Current undergraduate (incoming Junior or Senior) OR graduate student - see preferred education focus areas

·       Those finishing their undergraduate or graduate degree in the spring of 2026 are also eligible

Basic office software abilityProficiency with math, basic statisticsExcel userUnrestricted ability to work in acute-care facility

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred fields of study: Medical Students, DNP students, MHA students, Industrial and/or Biomedical Engineering/Management or other Improvement-focused track (undergraduate or graduate), Epidemiology or other life science (undergraduate or graduate), Pre-medExperience in quality or process improvementExperience in healthcare, particularly healthcare deliveryEPIC or other EMR experienceStatistical analysisAny coding experience a plusIHI Basic Certification in Quality and SafetySix Sigma Yellow Belt orSix Sigma Green Belt orSix Sigma Black Belt
