Intern, Continuous Improvement

At Saputo, we bring good to the table by making high-quality products, investing in our people, and supporting communities around the world . As a top 10 global dairy processor, we value contributions that matter and strive to foster an inclusive, growth-driven work environment. Ready to bring your best?

Our best comes from our people—their expertise, talents and passion. As our industry continues to evolve, and we serve more customers around the world, it’s our people who drive our success as a leading global dairy processor.

We are looking for a Continuous Improvement (CI) Intern to join our Calgary plant. In this role, you will support key CI projects and components of the CI program, helping identify opportunities, implement improvements, and sustain initiatives that enhance operational performance across the facility.

As a true CI Ambassador, you will maintain a strong daily presence on the production floor—coaching teams, influencing positive change, and driving meaningful improvements. You will ensure Lean Six Sigma standards are correctly applied and consistently followed, embodying continuous improvement principles in your day‑to‑day work.

This role offers hands‑on experience in process optimization, Lean methodology, and change management within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

The Internship will begin on May 11th and end August 14th, 2026.

AT SAPUTO, YOU WILL…

Write the future of the industry – We’re a leading global dairy processor because we’ve always been passionate and optimistic about solving the challenges we face. At Saputo, you will work alongside a committed team that continues to find better and more efficient answers that shape the future of our industry.

Have an impact on day one – Being hands-on is part of our culture. From your first day, you’ll contribute to our success, because we tap into the talents of each and every one of our employees.

Grow in your own way – We know that everyone’s growth path looks a little different. As you progress in your internship, you’ll discover opportunities for you to grow and build your own career path.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER...

Assist in planning, executing, and supporting targeted Continuous Improvement initiatives that can be completed during the internship period—including data collection, performance gap analysis, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to deliver measurable results aligned with operational excellence.

Participate in hands‑on activities on the production floor to observe operations, collect data, identify loss‑reduction opportunities, and enhance First‑Time‑Right (FTR) performance.

Build working knowledge of CI tools, techniques, and best practices, applying them to real operational challenges.

Document processes using flow diagrams, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and help standardize procedures, work instructions, and processes as needed.

Implement and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to monitor operational performance and support decision‑making.

Facilitate problem‑solving workshops and CI activities that engage employees and promote structured root‑cause identification and resolution.

Teach and coach employees to foster a zero‑loss mindset and reinforce continuous improvement principles across the facility.

Provide support on special projects and ad‑hoc requests as required.

YOU ARE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU...

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, Industrial Technology, Supply Chain, Food Science, Project Management, or a related field.
Preference given to students in their final year of study, with an expected graduation in 2027.

Previous internship or relevant work experience is an asset.

Participation in extracurricular or community activities demonstrating leadership, initiative, or teamwork is considered beneficial.

Strong working knowledge of Excel is required, along with good working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint.

Experience with Power BI, Power Query, and/or simulation tools is preferred.

Ability to interpret operational data, identify performance gaps, and propose actionable improvements using structured problem‑solving approaches (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, PDCA).

Comfortable working on the production floor to observe processes, collect data, and support First‑Time‑Right (FTR) initiatives.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams such as Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Warehouse.

Demonstrated interest in Operational Excellence, with familiarity in Standard Work/SOPs, Visual Management, and basic statistical analysis considered an asset.

Strong time‑management and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and contribute to projects with minimal supervision.

Ability to build strong working relationships and act as a change agent within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
