Position Overview

The construction industry is increasingly shaped by AI, automation, and data-driven insights, yet significant opportunities remain to improve how professionals access and interact with project information. Construction teams work with large volumes of data daily across schedules, models, documents, and field observations.

We are seeking a motivated UX Research Intern to join Autodesk Research and contribute to construction technology initiatives. You will explore design concepts, assist in conducting user research, and help shape how construction professionals interact with project data and tools.

As an intern with Autodesk Research, you'll collaborate with a global team working at the intersection of AI, design, and construction technology. Your work will inform how Autodesk approaches user experiences for the AEC industry.
 

Responsibilities

Workflow Analysis: Study how users interact with complex construction data. Document workflow patterns, pain points, and opportunities for improvemen

Framework Development: Contribute to research frameworks and design guidelines that inform how we approach user experience challenges

Research Synthesis: Analyze user research data (interviews, observations, usage patterns) to identify themes, surface insights, and inform design recommendations

User Needs Discovery: Work with researchers and subject matter experts to define user needs, goals, and context through interviews and contextual inquiry

Documentation and Reporting: Prepare research reports, user journey maps, workflow diagrams, and presentations that communicate findings to cross-functional teams

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between user research and design/engineering teams, ensuring user needs are clearly communicated and incorporated into solutions

Design Exploration: Create prototypes and design concepts to test research hypotheses and communicate potential solutions

Minimum Qualifications

Pursuing a Master's or PhD in Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, UX Research and Design, or a related design field with familiarity in AEC domains

Experience with user research methods, including interviews, usability testing, and contextual inquiry

Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, or similar)

Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize research findings into design implications

Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate design rationale

Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a research environment

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with construction, AEC, or other complex industrial domains

Experience with data visualization or information design

Background in front-end development (React, HTML/CSS, JavaScript) for prototyping

Experience with Autodesk products or similar professional software tools

Prior experience in industry research settings or applied research projects

The 2026 Canada Internship program runs for 16 weeks (May 4th – August 21st). All internships are paid.
