Interim Controller Support

Our client, a leading organization in the nonprofit sector, is seeking an Interim Controller to support their current team. As an Interim Controller, you will be part of the Finance Department supporting the overall financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong not-for-profit or retail accounting background that includes affordable housing/HUD projects, and grant programs which is a plus. They will also possess leadership skills, excellent analytical abilities, and a collaborative mindset which will align successfully in the organization.
**Job Title:** Interim Controller
**Location:** Madison, Wisconsin (Hybrid)
**Pay Range:** $45/hr.+ W2 (Negotiable depending on experience)
**Duration:** ASAP - through January 2026
**What's the Job?**
+ Oversee and manage the overall accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
+ Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, providing key insights and recommendations to the executive team and stakeholders.
+ Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure.
+ Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, oversee tax filings, and support the CFO during the annual audit process.
+ Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activities to maintain accurate financial records.
**What's Needed?**
+ Bachelors degree
+ Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software and similar cloud-based GL and budgeting systems.
+ Familiarity with Yardi software, affordable housing/HUD projects, and grant programs is a plus.
+ Knowledge of retail accounting, including credit card processing.
+ Experience in not-for-profit accounting.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with a newer team and provide thoughtful leadership and feedback.
